I'm impressed by how well this show changes tones. It's not really a character piece (tho they're perfectly lovely), but it does these big ideas; the mood, the setting, and the larger thematics imbued in those elements; exceptionally well.

Finally finished that 4 episode long Frieren premiere, and it's so good. Just love the tone; how we can keep it somber without going into outbursts of emotion. The quiet style works much better for me. And mixing this with a fantasy slice of life is the cream on top.

I think one reason the characters in Jujutsu Kaisen don't work for me is that most of them lack any concrete goals, which means the only thing that really drives the character side of the story is how they *react* to the plot around them.

Having finished One Piece's pre-time skip half (Sea of Survival: Super Rookies Saga), it's safe to say I think it's one of the most emotionally rich, creative, and sprawling epics I've encountered in the battle shounen genre.

Jujutsu Kaisen being fundamentally more style than substance for me will probably always be the case at this point, but when the style is this cool, it's pretty dope anyway. Can definitely tell the staff were limited here but they managed to achieve a lot of creative stuff still.

Really liked Whisper of the Heart. The characters are all adorable, the romance is sweet, and it's got a natural and grounded tone to it, with its fair share of nice messages. Feels like one that might grow on me with time too.
