I think you are absolutely onto something Jake, because the Pilot is TOTALLY going out of it's way to subtly hint something is going on with Jax regarding the abstractions.
There's two scenes where Jax notices/hears something relating to Abstractions and the scene just. Stops.
Oh do I have to directly point out Jax’s body language or…?
