Nigerian Senate is imposing a levy of 1% of net profit of companies operating in Nigeria for the NYSC Trust Fund.
This is like the 6th Trust Fund that is powered by taxes from businesses in a nation where the government does next to nothing to support businesses.
One of the cofounders already started a new company, already raised $5M+ and the company still does not have a product.
I think the investors are the fools.

RMB Nigeria had been operating for 11 years - got CBN license in 2012. They just exited the market for just $280k. With all those senior men running the firm in Nigeria, you would think the company is at least worth a house in Lekki.
Something is wrong with this market.

Not sure if this is meant to troll Burna Boy but I was live at this show in London, it was almost double the size of Beyoncé’s show in Edinburg which I was also live at. And I’ll pick Burna’s show over Beyonce a thousand times. Always remember that art is dynamic.

Why do you have to wait till when you want to study abroad before applying for your transcript?
You should collect your certificate and transcript immediately after graduation, even if it is Student's copy.
Universities accept student copy of transcript for admission processing

Are you like this normally or did you recently hit your head on something? A company that cannot pay salary for 16months is already insolvent. In a sane society, its fines or bankruptcy.
Only 12% of GetEquity’s 14,000 registered users actively invested in equity deals. With a total of $3m raised so far on the platform, doesn’t this means this would never be a profitable venture especially with the fact that this numbers were gotten after >$500k investment.
When Stripe acquired Paystack in 2020, it created unbelievable liquidity for some angel investors and it meant everyone wanted to get into VC investing.
Aside the terrible hostels, my experience in FUTA can actually stand up to any private University. Modern classrooms, projector-based lectures, no handouts and only soft copy materials, serene environment, online portals, top lecturers, lots of exciting extracurricular activities
You think I would leave a Babcock , pan Atlantic university to study in unilag? With their hostel like where they used to slaughter Jews. Class rooms like prison houses . Abeg abeg
If most of the startups in our ecosystem are HQ in the US, with US bank accounts and stuff - and they raise money in the US - money that only make it to Nigeria occasionally when salaries need to be paid. How exactly is this a win for the country?

It could also mean that there was no case to begin with. And even if there was a settlement, this still doesn’t give him the right to say he built a company that exited for $600M. You can’t be claiming other people’s efforts to deceive people in this ecosystem.
I often get invited to speak at LSE and Wharton but I don’t think I’ve ever gotten an invitation from a Nigerian University before.
It’s the same way I’m invited to speak at 10+ international conferences a year while I rarely get invited to speak at conferences in Nigeria.
Correct me if I'm wrong oh but I often see accomplished Africans jetting off to student organised conferences in universities in Oxford, Boston, London, California etc. I rarely ever see the same enthusiasm for student run conferences in Lagos, Nairobi or Kampala. Why?
Why do societies value Experience more than ability to innovate?
We keep putting people with experience in position even though most of them have stopped thinking
Our society need to value people with ability to innovate&come up with new ideas over people with ONLY experience

Thanks for asking. I fail to believe someone with that level of exit will find it difficult to pay his employees for months. So I did some digging. According to his LinkedIn, he left Molecmo in 2008. The company changed to Novira and raised $550k seed in 2019.

Keeping hundreds of businesses alive? Decent exit for founders instead of just shutting down? Investors get good deals and won’t need to build from scratch? Most Nigerians just shut down their businesses when they are getting old, businesses with crazy cashflow

There’s a difference between doing your job and licking the ass of your employer when they do the same thing you spent your entire life criticising, especially when you don’t have to do that.
I wouldn’t take a job that would put me in such position.
I love when privileged people have occasional needs and they want an entirely new business vertical dedicated to them.
5,000 people with ARPU of $150 gives you a TAM of $750k. Who wants $1m pre-seed to validate a market that doesn’t exist?
There’s an entire business vacuum for restaurants dedicated only to breakfast. They’ll open 5am and close by 10am. They have their own app or integrate with Chowdeck. They have small shops across town where people can drive by and pick. Just breakfast. I usually want food at 6am
Have you noticed the wailing and complaining regarding Okada ban in Lagos is completely down?
Our time frame for complaining about bad government policy/action is between 1-3 weeks, after which we accept fate and adjust our lives to be more miserable.
Our generation sucks.
How many tech bro in Nigeria have legit made $2M personal cash in the last 10 years? I don’t mean equity or unrealized gains or those that convert investors money into personal income.
Can you even count 30?
I don’t know or give a crap about the DSS DG but I know when civil servants celebrate the replacement of a leader, it’s most likely that leader didn’t allow nonsense/corruption from them.
Nigerian civil servants are multiple levels worse than the politicians.
Yahoo boys are probably getting attention cos they flaunt - young people are easily moved by what they see
What if people who are doing legit work start flaunting too - the developers, entrepreneurs, etc
We should show people they can make it without threading the wrong path

Egbon, my point is that if you left a company 7 years ago when it was nothing, you shouldn’t be claiming their success/exit as yours? He wasn’t there when the real work was being done so why does he make it look like he built the company and sold for that amount?
I don't see our generation keeping up with the morning devotion tradition.
Our parents did a great job with it; unfortunately, we are not mentally, emotionally and spiritually stable to keep up with it.

SMEs > Tech Startups.
84% of all jobs in Nigeria are in SMEs, while less than 20k people work in startups in Nigeria. More than half of the startups are also not even registered/headquartered here and some of you are still owing salaries.
Y’all overrate yourselves.
"Who asked them to be a founder" is such a wild thing to say. There's a reason why states fall over themselves to encourage, attract, and support entrepreneurs.
In a sane country, dictator Buhari would have been impeached. Trump didn't do anything remotely close to this and he's facing impeachment charges already.

I do not understand why anyone will drop out from an undergraduate program in Nigeria to do startup.
A guy from my Uni did this couple of years ago, the startup died in less than a year and he hasn't been able to go back to school.
Hopefully he can monetize his coding skills.
It's barely a week & Lagosians have already given up. They've adjusted their lifestyle to accommodate the new law which makes life more difficult for them

What is the Nigerian dream?
After months of research on this, I now have an answer. Maybe one day i'll publish a paper on it but for now, let me give you a summary over this thread.
The Nigerian dream is to "Escape Poverty".
Sometimes, we over-tech things.
Just like Gilfoyle said, we have a lot of "tech" addressing problems that don't exist. It's solutionism at its worst. We are dumbing down machines that are inherently superior.
Not every solution needs an app or a website.

Totally different. Why shut down when you can sell? I’m sure people would be interested in OkadaBook’s assets and infrastructure, but they are not even privy to the fact that it’s available for sale. Investors are looking for businesses to buy but where & how do you find them?
@bosuntijani
Keeping Buhari in power is not about the interest of the country. Its about the interest of people around him, people that will benefit from him being in power.
We are selfish people and everyone mostly side with what brings the best benefits to them, not to majority, but them.
