I love getting to talk with newcomer students about their first snow experience. Anticipating our first snow fall, we watched a tutorial about how to make a snowman ⛄️. Students wrote notes and retold the steps to teach someone else. Extra credit: send a photo of their snowman ❤️

Today was one of my favorite lessons. Newcomer Ss used prepositions to describe the location of their native country. They also used directions to discuss their move. Great conversations occurred, while connecting to each student personally. #el #esl #tesol #siop

Teaching language but so many other things. Helping zip a backpack while running down the hallway so that a student didn’t miss his bus has been the highlight of my year. ❤️🚌🏃🏼‍♀️

One of my favorite activities to do with newcomers: VTS (visual thinking strategies) to learn new vocabulary and use these newly acquired words in sentences to notice and wonder. I love that it gets messy while we are thinking out loud. #el #esl #tesol #vts

We have been busy with state testing, but we are still having tons of fun learning English! Aspiring level 3 students have been analyzing art, concentrating on street art. Aspiring level 2 students participated in STEM activities, engineering and building structures. #el #ESL

Newcomer Ss learned about the plant life cycle and used transition words to describe the steps. After observing their seeds for several weeks, we transferred them outside.

After reading My Shoes and I, aspiring level 2 students used visual thinking strategies to discuss a map of Mexico and Central America. Ss were so excited they jumped up and grabbed markers to show their journeys to the US. They even labeled and color coded. ♥️

This week newcomer students took a break from access testing to read a text. We created a list of unknown words and drew photos to summarize the main events. #esl #el
