So the breakdance lady from Austria(lia?) was doing a social experiment talking about yt access to breaking and social hierarchy, etc.
She wrote a paper about it, somehow she made it through to the Olympics with all her nonsense.
Which shows that she was playing in our faces.
Also, the B-folks in her country have been loud on social media talking about they never heard about any try outs or trials. So the real ones didn't even have a chance to compete.
This is many levels of complicity and dedication to making a mockery of a culture.
Also access must not be an issue because she made it into the Olympics with joke dancing. So girl bye.
Not funny. Actually nefarious. And why y'all make it hard to trust y'all.
2/2 tldr by my fren Michael L:
" She’s not making a similar argument about access to academic spaces or recognition such that hip hop gets equal billing to opera or ballet…
She’s not subverting the systems that give her more power as a white person and that says everything."
Tldr by my fren Michael L. :
"Wow. Okay. I think I just read that joint and it’s awful…
She’s arguing that, because some hierarchies are bad, that all hierarchies must be undermined — including those of cultural connection, commitment, and knowledge.
That’s wild..."

@rumicouldneva
In summation: she's upset cause yt ppl actually need talent to get into hip hop instead of just walking in and taking their spot like with most other things. 🙃
@cjoy_mackie
They are grasping at straws. They should be excited for that kind of diversity instead of threatening us with a good time. lol
Also, a lot of companies don't wanna deal with whatever international taxes and exchange rates unless they are huge companies.
Guess who have been mentors to BIPOC creators?
BIPOC creators.
We're good on that.
HIRE us as EPs, GMs, CEO's, so we can make the difference you think you're making (that you aren't).
Are you a freelance podcast producer? Holla, I want to put you on my twitter list. POC/WOC/LGBTQ/Disabled/Women encouraged to reply. Tag yourself and let the world know what experience you have! 🎙️
Good morning!
Hiring more People of Color doesn't make any of them your internal DEI team.
People come to work to do their actual jobs, not the job of teaching you or calling out company issues.
If they do, it's a privilege for you to get that feedback, not a right.
The epitome of "It's complicated."
You want to root for these guys but for decades they would leave you on the curb or pick up white passengers if you were Black trying to catch a cab. Or they would say no if you were going far.
Both illegal.
There's going to be a lot of knee jerk hiring for POC soon- but if these places are not considering you as a human, if they don't have a clear upward trajectory for you, if they don't have examples of how they have supported marginalized employees with action don't work there.
Woke up thinking how much Black genius is lost to worrying about, fighting, and explaining racism.
I have long wondered why white creators can just think up epic stories about dragons and magic and when we do it it's revolutionary.
To be Black and imaginative is a true feat.
Thinking of this Strong Black Legends

did with John Witherspoon this morning.
Thank y'all for giving him his flowers while he could smell them.
A celebration for 1 as I head home from my first day of FT work as a content producer at a dope technology company.
I don't have to play
#FreelancersRoulette
anymore!
I heard
@LilNasX
won his 1st Grammy tonight and was shamed by the internet (aka the collective assholes on here) for celebrating bc Kobe Bryant died.
This tweet is for you,

homie. Streets are so proud of you. Celebrate however you want. Your glow up is beautiful.

From my Black POV: In the time that we are living in you don't need to rig the system to show the system is rigged and then disenfranchise the people you seek to spotlight in the same breath.
If I ever get pregnant and ppl start asking "What are you having?"
I want to spend everyday thinking of answers like:
"Spaghetti, if it's not too much trouble. Thx"
@ChrisEvans
hi! You ran into one of our producers
@TastyKeish
today. Thanks for your kindness and remember... you’re always welcome to come to the studio in person. Plus we owe you a drink! ☺️
Micheal K. Williams was also an accomplished professional dancer. He went on your with Madonna and George Michael and he choreographed Crystal Waters "100% Pure Love". Here he is talking thru his acting career:
Yo. Please in 2020, please move some of these podcast conferences to other times of the year.
Spread it out let's go to Cancun in January or something.
Today is why I am ADAMANT about ALWAYS pursuing my own goals and dreams. I don't care if you don't think my indie pod/radio show is shit. It's MINE.
I work for money. I hustle for ME.
The gig economy has not proven anything except that it will drain you dry and call you lazy.
Now that we are firmly in WFH mode, let's just set this up as a thing:
Don't comment on anything you see in your co-workers home.
We didn't invite you over before and this is not an invitation now. We all gotta be here, just focus on the meeting.
Show of hands how many ppl take a sick day when they have their period?
Cause we cotdamn should.
Out here in meetings while insides are ripping themselves out. Lots of ppl have debilitating pain and nausea are holding it together cause "that's life".
We are the real MVPs.
I'm watching the birth control episode of
#SexExplained
on Netflix and you mean to tell me for 30yrs there has been a once a week, NON hormonal pill that has gone through rigorous testing- but I can't have it unless I live in India?
I despise the healthcare industrial complex.
If you are a POC/LGBTQ/DISABLED audio fiction producer or producer that flirts with the genre I would love to know you and I would love to invite you to submit pieces to the fiction anthology i'm working on called

As a woman that spent 7 formative years, learning & making social justice radio on
@wbai
, I am saddened that they would rather employ a fired

predator than pay producers. My instinct told me to jump from a sinking ship, now the ship is on fire.
2021 was a year of transition and walking into my light. I became an Executive Producer at

This industry is messy AF and I'm happy to land a place that hears and sees me as a whole person.
Hey new frensss,
Get to know me in the pinned tweet+
- I post things about menstruation.
- I'm very Black.
- I love & been in radio/podcasting since 2005.
- Sometime I tweet songs that make me feel hot in my pants.
- & currently going thru an ice cream making phase.

Good morning.
A Black man was killed in L.A. for riding his bike yesterday.
And the counter narrative on his life was began almost immediately.
America surrounds us in plague like conditions daily.
A cloud of Black death.
Folks, I think it's time to say it (again).
My colleagues and I are not job/employee recruiters. Stop asking us if we know any good POC/LGBTQIA for the job.
Guess what? We know everyone.
You're asking us to gatekeep ourselves because you don't want to sift thru the resumes.
In these two weeks of being laid off and having a history of being outspoken about what marginalized people go thru in media and at work- it's only now that I realized how profoundly hurt I am.
Hi! 👋🏾

It's not about whether they are at the mall. Their work project might be done and they have down time. In an office ppl have tabs open and even fake spreadsheet pages to look like they're working- so what's really real is that a company wants to own your time and rent your body.

WSJ reported that credit card companies are in trouble because people are paying off their cards and not carrying a balance due to how we've re-allocated funds during the pandemic.
The CC companies were in that article cryingggggg.
It's a pipeline. They're saying we don't trust your pedigree. So we're gonna put you through our entry level program and it's still gonna take you 5-10 years to get anywhere- and we'll make you feel like you owe us.
AIR is excited to introduce the New Voices AMPLIFY program! AMPLIFY is an 8-week marketing accelerator for independent creators with an existing podcast ready to grow their audience. Applications open 11/22. Attend the required info session on 11/21.

Make where you live a HOME. Stop waiting for the perfect place or to buy vs. rent.
I have made every room I rented, studio, and apartment exactly right for me.
Where you rest has to be the place you feel most comfort.
Can we suggest group therapy for parents that want grandchildren and won't stfu about them?
They should all just talk to each other and chip in on a few pets or something.
Ok so I clocked it:
Anytime someone asks me a "quick question" - it takes at least 1hr to address. With follow up questions, tailored searches, explaining things so they leave empowered, etc.
Please respect people's time.

Interesting thing about diversity features- is either the show is popular or the podcast art is branded in a "Black way". Or else they won't put you on these lists. Bc there are Black pods that just have plain branding or called the Joe Schmoe Show. You'll never see those.

I'm encouraged by this action taken by
@HelenZaltzman
. What I have found in all of this is a hefty dose of condemnation from yt ppl but no real action. Helen has done THE thing- given up some of the privilege afforded her and not just talk. She tried to lift ppl up and she left.
You ever stopped your mom while she was mid prayer?
I did. Yesterday.
Talmbout sending me a "man and a baby."
I was like "No. YOU don't pray for that. I pray for what I want. Eww."
When I tell you, I tried to grab the edge of that prayer before it went up to heaven...
Zoombombing is online harassment.
As we share public links en masse, people have found a way to target vulnerable communities.
And if you think "internet isn't real life" then look at the life we are living right now.
Make sure you keep your online spaces safe.
In 2021, I hosted
@NPRLifeKit
4x and had great convos with all women of color that truly helped me up my game while helping others. The Lifekit production team has been a pleasure to work with every time. The procrastination ep was most listened to of 2021. I LOVE hosting.
My way of blacking out as a consumer is to recognize that American music IS Black music.
Many of the artists that your parents and grandparents love only came to fame bc of their appropriation of Black artists that would never get a fair chance on air.
I am surrounded by beautiful Black resort goers in a beautiful Black country. I couldn't ask for a better vacation.
Just being part of the majority is so restorative for me.
Listening to

on a work call. Y'all really don't know how amazing she is. Never ceases to amaze. Also why I chose her not you as a creative partner. Sorry, not sorry. Also, that's my seven foot painting as the backdrop for Zoom calls.

I am unable to take yet another instance of yt vigilantism right now.
But to say old NY would not have let "some guy" choke someone to death in front of them for 15 mins.
Gentrification in NYC is a problem and this is the most extreme symptom of it.
Some of y'all have got this twisted acting like we're begging YT ppl for jobs.
We're asking YT people to treat us the way they treat themselves and each other.
Second of all, you dont know anything about the status of my or anyone else's LLC.
I want

in the US Supreme Court for the most selfish reasons. But, if she decided "I don't need this shit" and booked a trip around the world, I would absolutely, 100% understand.
I have some truly incredible news: Our episode "Take Me To The Water", that I produced with
@TastyKeish
earlier this year, has won a Sarah Award! We don't know which place yet, so you'll have to join us at the (streamed) awards ceremony on Sunday!
We need to re-evaluate how we celebrate life achievements, especially for girls/ women. I want graduations and jobs rate as high as baby showers and engagements.
That being said I'm putting a registry together to celebrate my next life achievement.
Y'all... I didn't know I was planting a bunch of seeds over the years, I just like my work and I fill voids.
How about all these flowers are starting to grow?
::insert thankful in every language::
This proves the point I made on a panel at
#podtales2019
when asked "How does audio fiction change the world?" And I answered it broadly as all fiction is important because people refuse to see what's right in front of them in reality.
I hate when Twitter refreshes while you're reading a tweet that starts:
"My girlfriend is quarantined with her baby daddy...."
I'll never know how that disaster turned out.
Someone needs to write the article about what to do AFTER a company has hired diversely- how they need to foster the success of those employees, unlearn oppression, and recognize where those people are coming from life wise.
I have more thoughts. If you write the article HMU.
@LollyNodada
@aphi_g
Of course but, It's too late for patience when you've been damaged as a result. Now it's time to guard ourselves from confusing messages and find people that will support us. I love my parents but they don't get to do this to me anymore.
