@ProfRobHoward I agree. Values provide an important compass and narrative - in this instance, fairness and compassion- and governments need to lead and help people think through difficult issues sometimes, rather than just being popular.

Go ahead for third runway was the last straw, building on my discomfort re punishing of Labour MPs concerned re child poverty, lack of actions re Gaza & lack of visible values governing choices.

@anandMenon1 It's unhelpful if Labour confuses fairness with toughness. A more confident government wld be clearer abt establishing legal routes for those seeking asylum & prioritising assessment of claims at HO, alongside tackling gangs & sending back those with no legitimate right to stay.
