Are new drugs likely to lead to more dangerous variants in the future? Weizmann Institute researchers propose a new type of test - Evolutionary Safety. Prof. @TPilpel and doctoral student @GabrielaL3001 from the Molecular Genetics Department have created a mathematical model for calculating the evolutionary risk associated with medical treatments that accelerate the mutation rate of viruses and bacteria. Regulatory bodies and pharmaceutical companies may benefit from this model when it comes to developing and marketing these treatments.
