The amalgamated company became the fifth largest railway in North America, extending from Atlantic to Pacific and south to the Gulf of Mexico. It was initially assumed that the larger CN was absorbing a smaller IC, but some observers now feel that it was the other way around. 2/2

The T&YRR in turn became a part of the TTC in 1921. In 1939 part of this line was rebuilt to serve the Canadian Arms Ltd. factory west of Etobicoke Creek. This track was removed in 1945. The Long Branch loop is presently the western terminus of the TTC's 501 Queen streetcar. 2/2

In 1976 the site became a parking lot for the CN Tower, and was to be a part of the cancelled Metro Centre development project. All three levels of government agreed to build the MTCC here as a standalone project. Queen Elizabeth II opened its first phase on October 2, 1984. 3/3

It took several weeks for CN freight traffic to make the transition and the yard received another, more official opening in May 1965. In 1975, Toronto Yard was renamed MacMillan Yard to honour recently retired CN president Norman J. MacMillan. 3/3

The CVR amalgamated with the Ontario & Quebec Railway in 1883 and both were absorbed by @CanadianPacific in 1884. The original CVR route remains CP’s mainline west of Toronto as far as Woodstock. The line also carries @GOtransit trains on the @GOtransitMI corridor. 2/2

The Mac-Paps’ most illustrious member was Dr. Norman Bethune, who created and led a blood transfusion service for wounded combatants. The battalion was not officially recognized by the Canadian government, which considered it to be an international embarrassment. 3/3
