At the request of Gov. Bill Lee, 250 Soldiers and Airmen from the Tenn. National Guard have volunteered to provide support in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. Of the 250 service members, 150 will provide medical assistance at the 35 mobile assessment sites across the state.

Gov. Bill Lee presented the Soldier’s Medal to Sgt. 1st Class Patrick Shields today. On Oct. 8, 2018, a fight broke out after a football game and a teenager opened fire, striking two citizens. Shields stopped the shooter and restraining him until law enforcement arrived.

At approx 3pm today, a Tenn. National Guard UH-60 Blackhawk Helicopter crashed while conducting a training flight near Highway 53 in Huntsville, Ala. The Madison County Sherriff’s Dept. in Ala. responded to the crash site and reported two crew members onboard were killed.

Over 1,000 Soldiers and Airmen from the Tenn. National Guard returned home from the nation's Capitol after supporting the Washington D.C. National Guard. Upon return, these service members were immediately tested for COVID-19 and will remain self-quarantined pending results.

Thanks to the Tenn. Dept. of Health and our Joint Medical Task Force, more than 5,100 Tennesseans received free COVID-19 tests at local assessment sites over the weekend. Don't forget, all Tennesseans are encouraged to get tested regardless of symptoms.

The TNNG, and multiple emergency response agencies, will be participating in exercises throughout Nashville from August 5-10. Designed to coordinate and rehearse emergency response, there will be an increased Soldier presence throughout the city and use of vehicles and aircraft.
