More than 190 Soldiers from the Tennessee National Guard’s 1st Battalion, 181st Field Artillery Regiment, returned home, Feb. 3, after a successful 10-month deployment to the Middle East.
At the request of Gov. Bill Lee, 250 Soldiers and Airmen from the Tenn. National Guard have volunteered to provide support in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. Of the 250 service members, 150 will provide medical assistance at the 35 mobile assessment sites across the state.

Today, Brig. Gen. Warner Ross, Tennessee’s Adjutant General, confirmed the identities of two Tennessee Army National Guard pilots killed Wednesday afternoon in a helicopter accident in Madison County, Alabama.
Gov. Bill Lee presented the Soldier’s Medal to Sgt. 1st Class Patrick Shields today. On Oct. 8, 2018, a fight broke out after a football game and a teenager opened fire, striking two citizens. Shields stopped the shooter and restraining him until law enforcement arrived.
At approx 3pm today, a Tenn. National Guard UH-60 Blackhawk Helicopter crashed while conducting a training flight near Highway 53 in Huntsville, Ala. The Madison County Sherriff’s Dept. in Ala. responded to the crash site and reported two crew members onboard were killed.
Three UH-60 Blackhawks and crew departed from Tennessee today to assist the Florida National Guard with hurricane relief operations.

More Soldiers returned home yesterday after spending more than a year away supporting operations near Laredo, Texas. Soldiers with Murfreesboro’s 269th MP Co. and Union City’s 913th ENG Co. were greeted by family and friends as they arrived at Smyrna’s Volunteer Training Site.
Don’t forget, the TNNG will host a statewide flyover, May 12, to show appreciation to all the healthcare heroes. Around 12:30 local time, residents in the downtown Nashville area should see a C-17 and a KC-135 circle the city as they make their way across the state.

The TNNG continue to conduct disaster relief in Humphreys County following deadly flash floods last weekend. Over 80 Guardsmen remain activated, working in coordination with local law enforcement and TEMA, to remove debris and provide potable drinking water in the community.
More than 300 TN Guardsmen are prepared to work together in restoring order and limiting the destruction of property for as long as needed. The safety of Tennesseans is our top priority and we are uniquely prepared to assist in responding to these types of emergencies.
