Contra the original article's fear that "China will crowd out other national security priorities," these appointees are addressing the opposite problem that has plagued US strategic thinking over the past generation: We will never "pivot to Asia" if we are never willing to extricate ourselves from open-ended conflicts in the Middle East or insist that Europe steps up to take the primary role in its own defense.
