BREAKING:
@piersmorgan
offers to pay the parking tickets of any NHS health worker who gets fined during this crisis. Says he will be the one who goes into battle with authorities who enforce them.
I was with a photographer who rang his energy company in despair as his bill was going from £3k to £5k.
“I asked why it wasn’t capped at £2500 like we’d been told”.
This is why the govt trotting out the £2500 figure is misleading. The cap is per UNIT of energy NOT per bill.
However you voted, we’ve been utterly failed by our political representatives. If they didn’t want Brexit they shouldn’t have said they did; and if they did, they should have voted for it. And if they didn’t want the people to decide, don’t have a referendum in the first place
No, JRM. Being furious the Prime Minister may have broken the law by holding gatherings when people couldn’t visit loved ones - even when they were dying - is not “fluff” “trivial” and “nonsense” and saying this is a total outrage.
Healthcare workers can't get tested, yet private tests available for £375 if you can afford it. Why aren't the govt buying them up to get everyone in the NHS tested so they check if they are safe to work rather than self-isolating for 14 days without knowing.
I am going to say this because the Prime Minister isn’t coming to the Commons to say it: I am sorry for anyone who couldn’t see or be with someone they loved, on the 20th May 2020. I am sorry if that was the day you lost or laid someone you loved to rest. I am so sorry.
Please can you explain “limit contact with other people”. Does this mean we can have contact with other people as long as we keep it limited? What is the limit? Which other people? Because all of a sudden there is no mention of keeping contact within households.
Bill was the kindest, funniest, most generous man in the business. I feel lucky to have worked with him and he taught me everything.
But above all, he was devoted to his family and I am heartbroken for them. RIP Bill. We will miss you so much.
All I hear in these press conferences is "the equipment is on its way" and we are "ramping up" our capacity to cope. We have known about the threat for months.
NHS staff are crying out for help.
Feels like a lot of blame on ‘breaches’ by a population that cooperated with lockdown and accepted restrictions while the government failed on care homes, PPE, schools and testing.
Please can you explain “limit contact with other people”. Does this mean we can have contact with other people as long as we keep it limited? What is the limit? Which other people? Because all of a sudden there is no mention of keeping contact within households.
Everyone has a role to play in helping to control the virus by staying alert and following the rules.
This is how we can continue to save lives as we start to recover from coronavirus.
#StayAlert
If people were “truly sorry” for holding parties under covid restrictions, they would have said so at the time not when they were exposed in the media.
Oh
@kategarraway
you are such a tower of strength for Derek and the children. So much love for you all. Everyone watching is with you, hoping for that miracle. ♥️
Still irked by this:
“even if [the party] could be said technically to fall within the guidance, there would be millions of people who would not see it that way.”
He doesn’t think HE is in the wrong. He thinks WE are. We - the public. Wrong to see it as a breach of the law.😡
Some people's idea of [free speech] is that they are free to say what they like but if anyone says anything back, that is an outrage. Sir Winston Churchill, 1943
Half my critics think I should leave MY paid employment because THEY take issue with the person sitting next to me. The other half think I should leave, BECAUSE I take issue with the person sitting next to me.
I'm staying right where I am.
Remember: people say things on the internet they wouldn't have the courage to say to your face. I have NEVER had anyone say - directly - anything as unkind as some of the stuff I get tweeted. And NOTHING in my professional life stops me from saying this.
The man who united and inspired our nation at a moment of deepest despair. Thank you Captain Sir Tom Moore for your service. I am heartbroken for your family. A life well lived, and well loved. RIP.
Confusion over exams at the start of lockdown. No proper transition to home learning. Children without laptops. Thousands dropped out of education. The algorithm destroyed Uni places. Gap between state and private widened. How does that get rewarded like this?
What is the science that allows us to do all of this opening up without the virus spreading? Is social distancing of 2m and washing hands all we are relying on? Without test, trace and isolate, what are doing?
I am overwhelmed by the kindness of strangers, twitter friends, FB groups & neighbours. A lady living near me was alerted to a lost black cat and went in her car to collect her - at midnight. I opened the door to see Suki in her arms. Thank-you everyone. So much goodness.❤️
In 2016 Michael Gove wrote a newspaper article saying VAT on fuel bills hit the poorest hardest & we should Brexit to remove VAT. In 2022 he says removing VAT would help the wealthiest most and we shouldn’t do it.
'Were you wrong then when you campaigned for VAT to come off energy bills then?'
@susannareid100
questions Michael Gove on why he campaigned for removing VAT on energy bills previously but is now not supportive of the change.
Concerning news. Boris Johnson is in intensive care unit at St Thomas’ Hospital. Best wishes to the Prime Minister, his partner Carrie and all his family. Such difficult times.
The mid-life hair debate! At 52 I’ve had the CHOP. But Cher told me

this morning, women should keep it LONG as they grow older. What do YOU think? 💇🏻♀️ Photos: Ken Mackay
BREAKING: A peak audience of 1.3 million watched the interview with Boris Johnson yesterday
@gmb
. It just goes to show how important these interviews are to our viewers. The show reached 2.4 million between 6-9am.

Nadhim Zahawi - appointed Chancellor by Boris Johnson - tells
@gmb
that he believes the Prime Minister is honest & transparent, as a Minister resigns over inaccuracy
JABBED! Thanks to Kamilah who administered the AZ vax (& Graeme who booked me in). Thumbs up to all the hard-working staff & volunteers at St Thomas’ Hospital vaccination centre (where Boris Johnson also got his today) on a record day for jabs 👍🏼
The British people want stability so I launched unfunded tax cuts that spooked markets, risked pension funds, shot up interest rates, sacked the Chancellor and then reversed the whole plan including the guarantee to protect you from energy price rises. But - stability 👍🏼
The British people rightly want stability, which is why we are addressing the serious challenges we face in worsening economic conditions.
We have taken action to chart a new course for growth that supports and delivers for people across the United Kingdom.
Evening - along with my lovely mum and her very good friend, I have just experienced a moment in history - witnessing the Queen lying in state in Westminster Hall. At once majestic and peaceful.
Testing: why isn’t it happening at the scale the Prime Minister promised? It is identified as a key factor in South Korea’s management of the virus. It would release NHS workers from unnecessary self-isolation. It would track transmission. Test Now.
And yet the Education Minister couldn’t name a single degree, cite a salary threshold or define a good job which would set the criteria for these “Mickey mouse degrees”.
'There are too many students not getting [good] jobs, too many students who aren't completing, too many students who are dropping out of courses.' - Education Minister.
Under new Govt plans, universities will be forced to limit the number of students they enroll in
Huge congratulations to my amazing friend
@kategarraway
for winning the NTA for Finding Derek. Huge love, always, to Derek, Darcey & Billy and the whole family. Stay strong. ♥️
Getting hit from left and right. Criticised for being too opinionated...and too quiet. Accused of being a snowflake and a c---. Too liberal ... too enabling, 'good-looking, but...' My skin just gets thicker by the second.
And we do it all again tomorrow
@gmb
6am.
The whole thing stinks.
This Government’s incompetence, its cronyism, its ideological obsession with outsourcing and rip-off privatisation has undermined our NHS and put lives at risk.
Time to kick the profiteers out of the system and put local public health teams in charge.
@susannareid100
you are the most smug & arrogant person on tv you even out smug
@PeirsMorgan
you’re facial expressions give you away before you open your gob.
Current senior Conservative government minister confirms that it was a failure by a Conservative minister that meant the government was poorly prepared for Covid.
3/4 Your pandemic preparation during six years as health secretary was found wanting and inadequate.Your duplicity right now in destabilising the party and country to serve your own personal ambition, more so.
I hope Belgium & France have a very hard, aggressive game that runs to an exhausting extra time with plenty of red cards & then a prolonged emotionally charged penalty shoot-out.

'Pathologists concluded that George Floyd's cause of death was asphyxiation from sustained pressure.'
@susannareid100
has a message for those who question whether George Floyd really couldn't breathe as she points out the results of the private autopsy that was carried out.
Charlie Stayt: Have you spoken to the Prime Minister in the last 24-hours?
Nadine Dorries - Why are you asking me that question
Charlie Stayt: I'd like to know
Nadine Dorries: we've communicated
Charlie Stayt: I'm really confused, is that a difficult question?

Many people saying Serena Williams was justly punished. No. She was punished more harshly than a man, as male tennis players have admitted. There is unconscious bias at work here - some expect "better" behaviour from women & that's

.
Sounds like its going to be an external probe now.
Danger for Downing Street dramatically hiked.
Not sure we will be seeing the results this side of
Christmas after all.
No government representation on a morning when clarifying the message is vital - as evidenced by the utter confusion in my timeline over the new advice.
UPDATE: I'll be back on
@GMB
tomorrow with
@susannareid100
- but just been told the Govt won't be. They're still boycotting us for asking ministers basic questions about the crisis that they were embarrassingly incapable of answering.
So we'll interview
@NicolaSturgeon
instead.
@susannareid100
You are so far up your own arse Reid it’s unbelievable!!! And when sat next to Piers you make these stupid faces when he is speaking
# GROW UP. Your NOT all that.
Oh England. You have the hearts of lions. You carried our dreams on your shoulders and you should be proud of how you made us feel. And proud of what you did. ♥️
The point about Christmas parties is that last year we weren’t allowed to gather, when those at Number 10 were going ahead. They ARE allowed this Christmas but the rules were very strict a year ago before widespread vaccination and people were desperately missing being together.
'People should be getting higher & higher wages and that would be the definition of a good outcome [to a degree], right at the time when you're saying don't ask for higher wages because that's going to wreck the economy?'
@susannareid100 asks the Education Minister how the Govt

@gmb
live on Tuesday, I asked the Prime Minister directly when he’d make the decision on HS2. He said “when we have gone through it properly”.
BUT the video announcing the decision had ALREADY been recorded before that interview….. 🤔
I am cancelling the rest of the HS2 project.
In its place we’ll reinvest every single penny, £36 billion, into hundreds of transport projects in the North, Midlands, and across the country.
Here’s why 👇
This is my End of Life Mum. Her name is Irene. That's me, on zoom, explaining to my mum why I am "not allowed to visit", because of the national lock down. I am so very sorry Mum.

We have strongly advised all over 70s to follow social distancing measures. However, there is no "blanket ban", and the suggestion that the clinically vulnerable "include 'people aged 70 or older regardless of medical conditions'" is wrong & deeply misleading.
Just spent two hours in a high-level meeting hoping I’d made an impression on influential colleagues ... to find the SALE label was hanging out of my dress.
