The residence was searched & 5 people were arrested. One of the 5 was later determined not to have been involved in the incident & was released from custody. πŸ”΅ CHARGES LAID πŸ”΅ We have arrested & charged a man in relation to 2 bank robberies that occurred earlier this week. πŸ“ On Monday, Jan.13, 2025, at approx. 11:20 a.m., it is believed a man entered the ATB Financial located at 102 Eighth Ave. S.W. He approached the teller, passed a note requesting money & implied he was in possession of a gun. The suspect then fled the bank with an undisclosed amount of cash & employees subsequently contacted police. A short time later at approx. 11:50 a.m., it is believed the same man attended the Scotiabank located at 531 Fourth St. S.E. He approached the teller & again passed a robbery note to staff. The man was told to leave by a bank employee & he exited the business without any money. Police were contacted & thanks to officers in District 1, the man was located a short time later in East Village & taken into custody. πŸ“Œ As a result, Kual KUAL, 34 of Calgary, is charged with 2 counts of robbery. He will appear in court today, Wednesday, Jan.15, 2025. Anyone with information about these incidents is asked to contact police. 🌐

πŸ”Ž NEED TO IDENTIFY πŸ” Our officers continue to investigate the suspicious death of a man after he was located deceased in downtown Calgary earlier this week. πŸ“ At approx. 5:20 a.m., on Sunday, Jan. 12, 2025, we were called to the 700 block of Fifth Street S.W., by a passerby, for reports that a man was unresponsive on a sidewalk. Upon arrival our officers located 1 man deceased. Following an autopsy completed today, Tuesday, Jan. 14, 2025, by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner, the victim has been identified as 34-year-old Samuel MULUGETA, of Calgary. Samuel’s death is believed to be the result of a fatal assault. πŸ“ Prior to being located on the sidewalk, it is believed the victim walked along the Third Street S.W. CTrain platform at approx. 4:20 a.m., when he crossed paths with a group of individuals who are believed to be known to him. In the brief interaction between the victim & the group, it is believed Samuel was robbed of his belongings & suffered an injury, later resulting in his death. Evidence suggests this was a targeted attack & police believe Samuel walked for several blocks while injured before he succumbed to his injuries on the sidewalk where he was later located. πŸ“£ Investigators are looking to speak to anyone who was in recent contact with Samuel or who knows of his whereabouts in the early morning hours on Sunday, Jan. 12, 2025. We are also requesting public assistance to locate 3 suspects believed to be involved in the fatal assault. Information? ☎️ CPS: 403-266-1234 πŸ›‘ @StopCrimeYYC βš– Case #: CA25016490 | 3887 🌐

πŸ”΅ CHARGES LAID πŸ”΅ We have charged a man after it is believed he was responsible for intentionally setting 2 vehicles on fire yesterday morning in the southeast. πŸ“ On Monday, Jan. 13, 2025, at approx. 8:50 a.m., we were called to the 100 block of Legacy Main Street S.E., for reports that an unknown man had set fire to a 2024 Ford Escape before fleeing the area in a white Ford Focus. A short time later at approx. 9 a.m., we were called to the 400 block of Walgrove Way S.E., for a similar incident. Again, an unknown suspect, believed to be travelling in a white Ford Focus, approached a 2010 Volkswagen Tiguan & intentionally set it on fire. The Calgary Fire Department attended both scenes & extinguished the fires. No injuries were reported. While working alongside the CFD, our Arson Unit investigators confirmed the damage caused in both incidents was consistent with using an accelerant to ignite the fires. Evidence led investigators to believe the 2 incidents were connected. It was also determined the Ford Focus used by the suspect had previously been reported stolen. Several hours later, at approx. 3:15 p.m., our officers in District 8 observed the Ford Focus travelling in the community of Legacy at a high rate of speed. The vehicle drove to the 900 block of Eighth Avenue S.E., where the driver got out & was taken into custody without incident. πŸ“Œ As a result, Tyson Lee BONNICK, 31, of Calgary, was charged with 2 counts of arson & 1 count each of possession of stolen property under $5,000 & possession of a controlled substance. He will next appear in court on Thursday, Jan. 16, 2025. Anyone with information about these incidents is asked to contact police. 🌐
