The ways it’s written it sounds as if the driver was in the driver’s seat, but acting as a passenger, not even co-pilot. When I’m in the driver’s seat, I’m driving—which involves scanning, shifting, signaling, etc.—not eating a sandwich and scrolling X. Unless I am incapacitated, I’m not prepared to let a car drive me anywhere.
