On February 7, 2024, we lost our dear friend and colleague, Joseph Aponte. Joe was tragically killed in a car accident, while doing the work that he loved. His legacy as a dedicated public servant, a family man, and an integral part of our Public Works team will live on in all of us. His absence is deeply felt by those who had the privilege of knowing and working alongside him. Today, we reflect on the lasting impact Joe made, not only through his work but through the community that he shared with those around him. Though he’s no longer with us, Joe’s hard work, and the camaraderie he shared with his colleagues will always be remembered and honored by all at the City of Sugar Land.

Remember when you said you'd recycle more in 2025? Yeah... we thought so! Here's some pro tips on recycling. ✅ What can be recycled: Mixed paper, cardboard (flatten & cut to fit), aluminum & tin cans (empty), glass bottles, plastics #1-5 & 7 (no Styrofoam), and aseptic cartons.🚫 Keep out: Plastic bags, garbage, Styrofoam (#6), electronics, and hazardous waste containers. Find your recycling schedule here Remember to: 🔹 Place recyclables loose in the cart, no plastic bags! 🔹 Empty, Clean, and Dry. 🔹 Keep the cart lid closed to protect materials from weather. 🔹 Maximize space by crushing bottles & cans and cutting boxes down. Need help? Call Republic Services at 713-726-7307.

In 2025, we’re building responsibly 🛠️ Here’s the plan... 📝Get a permit before starting building project. 📏Only use licensed contractors who know the rules ❌Don't exceed your impervious cover by more than 70% 🏗️Ensure that all new construction and substantial improvements are elevated sufficiently. The minimum finished floor elevation is at least 2 feet above the BFE as established by Atlas 14, Vol. 11, Texas, 1.5 feet above the adjacent natural ground or 1 foot above top of curb. 💧Learn about flood protection👉
