I study biological anthropology and for measuring the ischiopubic ramus we use a scale of 1-5, 1 being female, 5 being male, and 2-3 being indeterminate. Most skeletons fall into the middle and require multiple other forms of testing, and is not an exact science.

Because we need many tests but often we get bone fragments that are useless. Even if we do, when a male skeleton is dressed in women’s clothing we don’t say “he’s a man” we start to examine the way gender worked in that society bc it varies place to place.

The issue is you feeding them! Feeding bears means they associate people with food, and can get aggressive or hurt people because of it. Bears should be afraid of people, if they aren’t it can result in death of either a person or the bear if it keeps going to human sites.

100% accuracy doesn’t exist and normally we don’t get a full skeleton to work with. by additional testing I mean singular method alone. Sometimes females have a narrower pelvis and then we need the cranium, but we often don’t get both.

There’s cases in forensic anthology where this “100%” thinking hurts. We were shown an example where a trans man’s murder case was delayed bc the anthropologist disregarded the male clothing he was found in and assumed the female skeleton identified as a woman during his life.
