I know this isn’t directed towards public comment but I’ve read several different interpretations of the bible. For a young man about to graduate I’d recommend the NLT or NIV for a first time reader and use the “You Version” Bible app as a study tool and you can compare versions in the app. In addition to those, I highly recommend the Action Bible, it’s like an advanced comic book with phenomenal illustrations, it reads in chronological order and has book, chapter and verse references on the bottom of each page. It’s entertaining and I know several older teens who have really enjoyed reading it, time and time again. My oldest son read the whole thing (the first time) in about a month and a half and gained a mind boggling understanding of all the books of the Bible and the history of the time, sometimes he explains things better than I could and I have read the Bible more times than I can count and several interpretations of it. The Action bible is the version we buy extra copies of to give to kids and young adults that are curious or seeking to get to know Jesus.
