@Nick06747952 @daniele9 At 3 v 3 is all about kids being comfortable on the ball. Basic football first; specialisation later.

@statsbet Good point but it depends on how you measure success. For example, if more kids end up playing grassroots football for longer, i.e. they stay in love with the game (and/or sport in general) due to the format change then that is surly a wider positive for society.

@Nick06747952 I think there is a misconception about 'grassroots'. Plenty of talented, driven kids are playing 'grassroots' football. I believe the JPL is a classic example of this. So it appeals to a wide range of talent and motivation.

@statsbet Good question, other countries have done so sounds a bit like playing catch up.

My #SundayShare presents: the 'Italian Job' 🇮🇹 (as an academy coach!). Lots of us think we have what it takes to coach at this level - but these are the requirements from a leading Serie A club academy. How many can you honestly ✅? @SundayShare10

The Scottish FA is ahead of the curve and already delayed the move to 11 v 11.🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

I can exclusively reveal the FA's plans 💪(okay, educated guess them based on the fact the FA in N. Ireland published their blueprint at the same time as the FA's announcement. In short: - 3 v 3 = to U9 - 5 v 5 = to U11 - 7 v 7 = to U13 - 9 v 9 = to U15 - 11 v 11 at U15 Also, some interesting developments re coaching quals. UEFA C to be compulsory at 9 v 9 by 2027/28. @sturge_p #teamgrassroots

@kieronbutton17 That was day 1, page 1 on UEFA C: 'stop using the term drill'. But what they were trying to say, in a rather nice way, was construct practices where players are engaged, ideally in an opposed format. See graphic: drill is to the left; practice is to the right.

@harryfryerr I sympathise somewhat, Harry. As a young GK, I felt victimised when the pass back rule came in. But, guess what? It was progressive. Here are more progressive changes so why not embrace them? What's the worst that could happen? The kids actually enjoy it? 😀

@Scoz1985 Replies from Irish coaches confirmed this is a rolling programme so existing teams will not 'go back' the way but those coming through will follow the new pathway.

@WillAddedDigits No idea. The FAI said they will triple the annual funding so can only assume that will include the coaching side.

@Nick06747952 Hard to say until the governing bodies publish their findings. I just posted about the Man Utd academy study in 2003, where academies at U9 level played 4 v 4 and 8 v 8 matches. 75% of players said they preferred the 4 v 4 format.
