If the NHC is right and #Rafael reaches Category 2 intensity, it would be the 11th Atlantic Cat. 2+ storm in Nov or Dec since 1966 (Satellite Era). Jeanne (1980) Kate (1985) Florence (1994) Lenny (1999) Michelle (2001) Paloma (2008) Ida (2009) Otto (2016) Eta (2020) Iota (2020)

This.
FACT CHECK: Debunking weather modification claims. No one creates or steers hurricanes; the technology does not exist. Details: @NWS @NOAAResearch

Oct 9 1:30 PM ET: #Milton only hours away from landfall. It is hard to overstate how every wobble will matter in terms of where the maximum wind / storm surge impacts are felt and by how many people. Literal miles may translate to a loss difference in the billions of dollars.

#Milton: Another example of basic science. If you add more heat to the oceans, it provides more "fuel" or "energy" for tropical cyclones to ingest. If you add more atmospheric moisture, this helps initiate or sustain more convection. More heat. More moisture. Stronger storms.

October 8: Final preparations for #Milton's anticipated west-central Florida landfall. This will be consequential for a lot of people. My parents live in the Tampa Bay area. I have many friends in the Tampa Bay area. I used to work in the Tampa TV market. This event is personal.

#Milton: Only the sixth known Atlantic hurricane with minimum central pressure below 900 millibars (mb). Wilma (2005): 882 Gilbert (1988): 888 Rita (2005): 895 Labor Day Storm (1935): 892 Allen (1980): 899 Note: Pressure data was not consistently recorded by the NHC until 1979.

@forsythe_cory The southwest-to-northeast motion will actually be worse from a surge perspective. Means more of the coast will see onshore winds.

October 6: Reaching the point of inevitability that the west coast of Florida will take a direct landfall from #Milton. While not expected to strike while at peak intensity, a considerable and costly impact is quite likely from wind and storm surge. Be smart. Be calm. Be ready.
