@MattLearnsLingo @duolingo Interesting! You're right, I guess not all the languages are the same... Or, for example, it depends from what language! Italian from French isn't as complete as Italian from English 🤷♀️

@MattLearnsLingo @Kenny_DB1983 My kids grow up with both French and Spanish, French in the house, Spanish outside. They speak both at equal level, very well. 🤷♀️ So both are their mother tongue.

Reflexion of the weekend btw BEL, FR and MX : bc Span is phonetic, span speak people don't need to focus on etymology, while FR speak people do. For my MX friend, "voir" and "ver" are completely diff while I instantly see the link. But he just listens while I read it. #langtwt

Reflexion of the weekend btw BEL, FR and MX : Spa speak people don't need to know the metalanguage of their language since it's phonetic while for Fr speak people it's mandatory since a lot of things are silent. Without it, you often don't know how to spell words... 🤷♀️ #langtwt

@MLautmer For ES, I'd say that all their use of pronouns is tricky. Like "se me olvidó" instead of "olvidé" 🤷♀️ For FR, articles are pretty tricky, too! You can survive knowing the 5 more common verbs in Subj, but never knowing if to put "à" or "de" for expl is driving my students crazy 😁
