#LadyLiberty underwent a major restoration in the 1980s. Iron armature bars were replaced with stainless steel ones. Copper sections were taken apart; cleaned and then re-riveted back together. Finally, the original torch was replaced shown here in 1985. #DYK #ThrowbackThurrsday

Winter Storm Early Closure.Due to the winter storm, Liberty and Ellis Islands will close to the public today at 3:00 p.m. The final ferry from Battery Park will be at 1:30 p.m. We anticipate resuming normal operations tomorrow, Friday, February, 19.

#ThenAndNow To raise $ and attention for his creation, Auguste Bartholdi showcased the Arm of Liberty at the 1876 Centennial Exposition. Visitors could purchase tickets to climb up the arm and into the torch. Liberty's first torch is now on display at the #StatueofLibertyMuseum.
