Our state is at a point in its history that there is no choice but to retire its current state flag. The impending economic, social and cultural pressures are going to create a storm that this state cannot weather.
It is now time, and I am convicted that changing the flag makes Alcorn County and Mississippi better.
Whenever my time in public service is complete, I want my children to look back and be proud of what I’ve done. A vote to keep the flag does not accomplish this goal.
Therefore, it is imperative that our legislature begins to consider options on how we replace the flag.
This is an emotional issue and the politically easy vote for me is to keep the flag. However, there comes a time when every generation must make a change for the better.
Today I joined my House colleagues, in voting for and passing SB 2536 which is a bill that prevents biological males from participating in female sports at school. As a father of a daughter, this bill provides protection and promotes fairness for all our children.
Earlier today Governor Reeves vetoed HB 980. This bill was particularly aimed at helping families receive medication that otherwise would not be available in Mississippi.
The bill passed both the House and the Senate unanimously.
I was proud to cast my vote today to give Mississippi teachers a much deserved pay raise! The START Act will give teachers an average raise of $5,140 & assistants $2,000 in the coming school year & will lift our starting teacher pay above the National and
I am humbled & honored that Speaker Gunn appointed me Chair of the Jud B Committee. This is an important committee and I am thankful for the confidence that the Speaker has shown in me.
I am also grateful to serve on Ways and Means, Ag, Corrections, Public Health and Tourism.
Today I presided over my last Judiciary B committee In Jackson. It has been one the highest honors of my life to work along with these incredible people. This group has made a phenomenal impact on the state of Mississippi.
Anyone that knows me, knows one of my favorite places on Earth is Jacinto on the Fourth of July. I have never missed one and I don’t intend to start now.
Happy Fourth of July!
I have been a small town lawyer for most of my career, and it’s days like these when clients bring me vegetables that remind me of what a privilege it is to be one!

Did you know that in Mississippi a person loses their right to vote if they are convicted of timber larceny, but if a person is convicted of possessing child pornography or human trafficking they can still vote?
I am committed to resolving this inconsistency in the law!
Nineteen Years ago today, two high school sweethearts from Alcorn Central said “I Do!” It’s an honor to share my life with this woman who loves me, motivates me, and challenges me to chase my better self! Happy Anniversary!
I am proud to announce that

Today was happy to join
@PhilipGunnMS
,
@tlamar44
, and my other colleagues in the legislature on a special committee to have hearings on our state income tax. I 100% support the elimination this tax. In doing so, our state will reap untold benefits for generations to come!
Great Night! Great Food! Great Crowd! Great Campaign Kickoff!
Thanks to
@PhilipGunnMS
and
@JasonWhiteMS
for making the trek to Cpro th. Their words were too kind, thankful for their friendship.
Thank you Corinth and Alcorn County for showing up and showing out.
I do not posses the words to express my humility and gratitude for being named the 2023 Mississippi Law Enforcement Officials Legislator of the Year!
For as long as I draw breath I will always

!
This year has been an unprecedented challenge. However, through all of the adversity we still have a tremendous amount to be thankful for. God is good.
Lesley and I wish you all a very Happy Thanksgiving!
It’s a great honor to be called the Gentleman from Alcorn, but it is a greater honor to be the father of Miss PreTeen Alcorn County!

Nothing about 2020 has seemed normal, and this year has been unusual to say the least. Still, though, I am thankful for the little glimpses of normalcy all around. Like catching lightning bugs on a humid summer night!
Thanks to the American Conservative Union for awarding me the Patrick J. Nolan Award for Criminal Justice Leadership! I look forward to continue our commitment of conservative criminal justice reforms that enhance Mississippi!
@DSafavianEsq
My love for Corinth and Alcorn County is second only to my love for my family. The decision I recently made was driven in large part by both of these factors. I want to see Alcorn County succeed and I wanted do what I felt was in the best interests of my family.
Thankful for these friends, family members, and colleagues that helped canvass the district to get out the vote this afternoon!
VOTE TUESDAY AUGUST 8!!

Proud my father in law got to support one of his former players, the legendary Dontae Jones, as he was inducted into the Mississippi Junior Colleges Sports Hall of Fame!
Law enforcement has always been a priority of mine, and as Chairman of Judiciary B I am committed to smart public safety. It is critical, now more than ever, to provide these men and women with what they need to be successful!
Anyone that knows me knows that I am an Ole Miss Rebel! I love the Rebels and all things Ole Miss!
However, my love for Ole Miss is dwarfed by the love I have for the State of MS. What happened last night is unequivocally a positive for our home state, and for that I am grateful!
Fentanyl overdoses have now become the leading cause of death for people between the ages of 18-45. Myself and other members of the Mississippi House have worked diligently to help address this issue.
Tune tomorrow to Middays with Gerard Gilbert’s 11:00 to hear our plan!
With the help of Dr. Childress and my colleagues, I have filed a bill to address this problem and see to it that the promise Corinth was made is fulfilled! It’s not about politics, it’s not about tests, it’s all about our children! My Children!

By a vote of 107-4 the Mississippi House of Representatives has passed
#HB688
, the

bill. I have been honored to fight for our teachers and students, but there is still much work to be done. Let’s continue to fight like WARRIORS!
Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends. John 15:13.
God bless the men and women who have given their full measure of devotion to this country! I am forever in awe of each of them!
Today, I joined the Speaker of the House and other House Members in urging Gov. Reeves to take the steps necessary to get people back to work or, if not, to end Mississippi’s participation in Federal COVID-19 unemployment benefits!
I cannot believe that ten years ago today you first elected me as your State Representative for Alcorn County! This honor has certainly been one of the greatest of my life, and I count myself lucky to be known at the Capitol as “The Gentleman from Alcorn!”

To the man that taught me how to love, to have courage, and to stand on principles. To the man that taught me how to be a man, how to be a husband, and how to be a father. To the man I owe my life to and to my best friend!
Happy 70th Birthday!! Love you!
Yesterday in meetings with the Governor’s office, I was informed
@MRHC1
has been a model for the State in getting shots in arms! The Governor was very complimentary of our hospital and the its work.
Congratulations and keep up the great work!
For the first time in 20 years Tippah County did not have any highway fatalities. I was proud to join
@JodySteverson
and Rita Parks in presenting a plaque honoring the four troopers that work Tippah County, two of which live in Alcorn County! Congratulations gentlemen!
Both my boys love Legos. Lesley and I are willing to put up with their hobby, because they learned to finish what they start! Baker has worked on this massive Lego for the last two days and after 3100 pieces (16 hours) he has finished! Yes, he did it completely by himself!
