"The period from prenatal to age three is uniquely consequential." #StartingAtZero
How lucky is this little guy (age: 10 months) to have an entire collection of grownups hanging on his every move? It’s something we should aspire to for every child. Here’s why: The period from prenatal to age three is uniquely consequential. It’s during this time that the brain is “wired” in ways that will ultimately support - or hinder - children’s longterm success. And to a large extent, this metaphorical wiring results from nurturing, attentive interactions with the significant adults in children’s lives - which makes every one of us a potential contributor to children’s optimal development. Whether you’re a parent, a grandparent, a teacher, an aunt or uncle, a neighbor, a friend… your time is never wasted showing attention and kindness to the children in your lives. So give it freely and be a brain builder. 🧠 This little guy and his attentive grown ups were shared to IG by annica.

"Paid parental leave and high-quality child care improve children’s brain development and prospects for a better future."
As the 119th Congress settles in, a reminder that there's a gaping disconnect between what science tells us children need and what we as a society do to help them. But it's never too late to change that. In fact, there's no better time than the present.
