Big news: the freshwater sawfish has been uplisted from 'Vulnerable' to 'Endangered' under Australia’s nature laws. 🌊 With Australia as one of its last strongholds, this decision builds momentum for much-needed, stronger conservation action. 📸: @AustMarConsSoc

One hundred years ago, the Arcturus Oceanographic Expedition set sail from New York City. Led by our then-Department of Tropical Research (DTR), the six-month voyage made an unexpected stop at the end at the little-known #HudsonCanyon. Pictured is Isabel Cooper, a DTR staff

Thrilled to see @TheWCS Marine and SE Asia-Pacific staff presenting on the @KiwaWISHPlus and WISH Pacific approach at #WorldWaterWeek. WISH is an innovative example of planetary health in practice to implement watershed management for public health and environment benefits
DYK: Water pollution is the top threat to over 30% of coral reefs. At #WorldWaterWeek, WCS’s Amelia Wenger, Alec Hughes, and Alice Latinne, spoke on the importance of integrated watershed management to achieve co-benefits for nature and people.

Whale sharks, oceanic whitetips, wedgefish, manta rays—these iconic species need the same protections as tigers or gorillas. New @CITES proposals to prohibit commercial trade are “clearly justified,” says @WCSsharks. https://t.co/c3ccwSSTm9

Very honored to be leading the delegation for @TheWCS here at #UNOC3 this week. Watch the video below for a taste of what we are showcasing this week.
Our focus for #UNOC3 includes climate-resilient coral reefs, advancing regional cooperation for #30x30, and elevating the leadership of coastal women worldwide, says WCS’s Dr. Stacy Jupiter.

For 10 years, @WCSOcean Giants has studied whales in the NY Bight. Our team gathers data that is used to better protect these animals. These shots are from a recent ‘close approach’ by a curious humpback that circled & remained close to the boat for some time. #WorldWhaleDay

Our WCS-@WHOI acoustic monitoring buoys picked up North Atlantic right whales in NY Bight yesterday. This triggers slow zones, crucial to protect the whales. https://t.co/XlYxjPPOLM Last week in this area, @NOAAFish_NEFSC saw a mother (Accordion, #4150) with her first calf.
