Courts presume that courts are a more legitimate site of expressing dissatisfaction than protest. They therefore stay laws or order mediation. Some Courts however are alive to the emotional reaction and social context that protests capture (6/6)

Many Coirts however have started to acknowledge the misuse of criminal laws by the police as well as that violence is often initiated by the police rather than protesters. This has led to critical safeguards for protesters including decriminalisation (3/n)
