This is Joyce, one of our guides at the distillery. If you have every visited you may very well have met her. We asked her a few questions and she put it so eloquently we thought we'd let you just read it in her own words!  "I’m Scottish born, with itchy feet at 17, I headed off on a 25 year adventure, joining the military, meeting my husband, travelling and living abroad with our jobs, we finally settled in the west coast of Scotland, because I married a Tiree boy, and we both are drawn to the sea. It was time to slow down, So Campbeltown it is. I found a seasonal job at Springbank Distillery in 2022 and by hook or by crook I’m still here. I’m a tour guide, some call us story tellers or historians, I think a little of each, I’ve worked in most departments at Springbank, on the distillery side, to see how they operate and process, it’s a great way of putting all the Springbank cogs together when you are learning. It's a fantastic role especially in the summer, when it’s super busy, I love working with people from all walks of life. If you are here visiting Springbank, visit the distillery early before opening and listen for the malt men whistling. It echos through the car park. You need to be an early riser though ! When I’m not working, I’m busy working for a community charity who are in town, and when things are quiet and I get down time I love to spend it with my husband Innes and 3 dogs Frankie, Archie and Angus, we love heading north in our camper when we can."  Thanks for sharing Joyce.

The five days spent in your distillery were very enriching. I was already in love with Springbank, but I was particularly happy to be able to meet all women and men of Springbank, all are nice.” ~ 2024 Graduate “Even half a year later, when I think about my week at Springbank Whisky School, a big grin spreads across my face and my heart warms. You have no idea what a pleasure it was for me to spend that week in Campbeltown. A unique experience that I will never forget.” ~ 2023 Graduate

This year, we worked with not one but two local farms to grow barley to continue our Local Barley series. Stuart, Dan and Andrew at High Ranachan opted to grow 'Westminster' variety in 2024. The weather over the summer made it more challenging and lead to some disappointment in yields. The rain also made the harvesting difficult and they had to wait on more favourable weather to bring in the last two fields before they could complete the drying and cleaning process prior to delivery. Around 20 tonnes is expected which is still in line with previous years. For the first time in some years we reached out to a second farmer to grow on our behalf in 2024. Peter, older brother of Fiona from the sales team, opted for the 'Laureate' variety at Low Knockrioch Farm. He also notes the weather has posed a challenge having been "very wet and unseasonably cold" but is happy with the turnout of the crop all things considered. We recently took receipt of 28 tonnes from him. We endeavour to continue working with various farms in the Kintyre area in the coming years, just like we have in years gone by.
