and Mary Namubiru. We document the gendered effects of the Ugandan lockdowns on skilled workers. Women disproportionately lost their jobs and were shifted to unskilled sectors. The gender pay gap widened. Effects persisted for 18 months!

The existing architecture of gender quotas in municipal elections is insufficient to⬆️the % of female mayors. Should we think about dearth of female political leaders in the same way as we think of female careers more broadly in the labor mkt? Seems key to find solutions.
