The other thing that strikes me is the utter lack of acknowledgment by Max or the RB leaders that this race ended with an unusual implementation of the SC Regs. No sliver of acknowledgment that they may have won under a cloud.

It’s been two years since we lost Charlie. His legacy in
@F1
is evident everywhere you look. This is the last photo I took with him. He’s smiling. We laughed a lot that day. He was never too busy for a laugh.
My thoughts are with his family today.

This is why we have Regs and precedent. Sometimes a race ends under SC. Had Latifi binned it 2 laps earlier, Max would have won on track, unassisted. The “miracle” would have been the SC.
But the SC happened later, and the RB miracle was Race Control making up a new start proc

I was at the BMW team dinner in Montreal & Seb was there with Kubica. In the Q&A he was asked about being a reserve driver instead of racing.
He said it was tough but he wouldn’t want one of the other drivers to break a leg etc.
