Luis Tiant threw a shutout in 4 consecutive outings in 1968 and again in 1972. He is the only Modern Era pitcher with multiple streaks of 4 consecutive shutouts. Only 1 pitcher has thrown a shutout in 4 consecutive outings since Tiant last did so in 1972 (Orel Hershiser, 1988).

Most seasons with 5+ shutouts in the Live Ball Era: 7 Tom Seaver (HOF) 6 Jim Palmer (HOF) 6 Bert Blyleven (HOF) 5 LUIS TIANT 5 Bob Gibson (HOF) 5 Warren Spahn (HOF) Tiant led the AL in shutouts in 1966 (tied, 5), 1968 (9), and 1974 (7). He also threw 6 in 1972 and 5 in 1978.

Luis Tiant recorded a 41.0-inning scoreless streak in 1968 and a 40.0-inning scoreless streak in 1972. He and Hall of Famer Walter Johnson are the only pitchers since 1900 to record multiple scoreless streaks of 40.0+ innings. h/t @EliasSports

Luis Tiant is 1 of only 17 pitchers ever with an ERA of 3.30 or lower and at least 2,400 strikeouts and 225 wins. The only 3 pitchers on that list who aren’t in the Hall of Fame are Tiant, Roger Clemens, and Justin Verlander.
