What a lovely gesture by a Headteacher and Deputy Headteacher sent to their striking

staff members on 1st February.
Now is the time to ask politicians to back our campaign for a fully funded, above-inflation pay rise:

Everyday brings new stupidities from government and especially the DfE. Schools are in crisis, they're falling down, educators leaving in droves & recruitment in free fall. A perfect storm of national decline and yet Keegan blames the canary in the coalmine. Staggering.🤦
THIS MAKES MY BLOOD BOIL!
The Education Secretary has just sneaked out an outrageous video blaming teachers for the disruption in schools which the Govt itself was responsible for & threatening to rob them of their democratic right to strike
WHERE IS THE OUTRAGE FROM UK MEDIA!?
Rishi Sunak is preparing his Government’s latest shameless CON - this time against our teachers. Watch this in disbelief & if you share my anger RT it widely. If UK news shows can’t get the job done let’s damn well do it ourselves!
#FairPayForTeachers
When will people wake up to the fact that Ofsted is not fit for purpose. It is a highly ideological tool of the DfE designed to create fear and compliance.
Our local primary Head took her own life after an Ofsted visit. There are many things that make my blood boil about the education system, but this is just heartbreakingly awful. Something has to change.
Listen to 9 year old Charles from Maidstone on the Jeremy Vine show today from 1:46:45:
“Are you missing your friends, Charles?”
“Yes I am, but I’d sooner I was safe than going back into school where I could be infected with Covid.”
🚨📢Endorsement by
@PeterStefanovi2
is most welcome. Everyday Peter shows up the corruption and venality of the Tories. He's right - vote YES to strike in the e- ballot. Education has had enough.
Southampton City Council say that parents and staff rightly concerned about going back to school, asked Heads to prioritise vulnerable children and those of key workers, and told parents that fines will not be issued for non-attendance.

The minimum service levels bill, which could make it illegal for some teachers to take strike action, was passed in the Commons last night. It now goes to the Lords before becoming law.
Find out how your MP voted here:
There's been a disastrous loss of experienced teachers from the profession and not enough people are aware of it, or talking about it.
Even more worrying, not enough is being done to stop the over-50s leaving.
@heymrshallahan
deep dives into the data
The govt removed masks from schools against advice from SAGE, indieSAGE & expert consensus. PHE then suppressed data on variant spread in schools.
Now:
Matt Hancock, the Health Secretary, warns that “a huge proportion of the latest cases are in children”
An important letter to the Prime Minister to express the "serious and real concerns" about "potentially dangerous, public statements made recently by some senior political figures, who have speculated about when schools might reopen." from West Sussex MAT CEOs
Teach the kids in school, teach the kids not in school, continue to do both when increasing staff are sick or forced to stay home. Oh and by the way, can you learn to administer a medical test that you have to deliver hundreds of times a week?

The Government’s new offer falls well short of what your elected national executive believes is acceptable. Put simply, it’s just not good enough.

Chief Inspector admits schools in more affluent areas are awarded better grades than schools in deprived areas.
But that’s ok because disadvantaged schools are more likely to have their leadership rated more highly.
Ofsted is not fit for purpose.
Something is also being missed here as well. Ofsted is not simply broken, it is an ideological tool that is the pipeline for academisation and thus the stealth privatisation of state schools into academies. Ofsted has been weaponised and must be broken up.
Observer today.
And in my DM inbox this morning a HT of a school inspected since the tragedy of Ruth Perry saying the lead inspector came in with an agenda, found ‘evidence’ to back it and destroyed a good school.
This HAS to stop. Toxic, Toxic, Ofsted.

For those members who feel that their experience of yesterday's strike was so positive (empowering, morally uplifting, sense of community etc) you might be surprised by the response of corporate media. Don't be. But still we endure. credit:

Cllr Suzy Horton, Cabinet Member for Children, Families and Education at Portsmouth City Council, has issued a statement about schools re-opening. Read it here:
Happy weekend educators. Enjoy. You know what works, don't be downhearted. Professional autonomy remains the touchstone of good teachers, TAs......✊👍👏🏽
Dear Boris Johnson
You said that GCSE exams for this year were cancelled. They're not cancelled. They're called 'assessments'. And instead of examiners marking them, teachers are. For no money. But the schools have paid the exam boards. Where's the money?

Long Covid will have a profound impact on education - both teachers and students will suffer with large numbers of staff effected. Nothing in their recent record suggests the DfE will understand or offer any leadership on this issue.

🚨📢👇 This. Academisation is a stealth privatisation of state education. It's iniquitous, pernicious and designed to kill local accountability.
@antiacademies
I don’t know if people still consider Momentum to be representative of anything, but I think a big failing of the left is not being more critical of their output. I’m totally against private education, but where is the campaign to reverse academisation? This isn’t serious.
Today is the day! Is the government listening? Let's raise our voices! It doesn't matter if your picket is one person or 50 - our voices will be heard as one ✊
Except for staff working in primary schools, who will be asked to meet up with 15 pupils in an indoor space. This is already a moment of anxiety and stress for many staff, parents and pupils. Please remember young children do not understand social distancing.
#FollowTheScience
From today, in England, you will be allowed to meet up to five friends in public outdoor places or in your garden. This will be a moment of joy and relief for many.
Please remember to keep 2 metres away from those you don’t live with, and wash your hands regularly.
