My ex-MIL, who I live with, recently had COVID. When the ambulance arrived, I told the EMTs that I suspect COVID and offered them N95s - declined. When they came in and saw her vomiting violently, I offered them N95s - declined. BUT!.. they all wore latex gloves. Riddle me this.
As a side note, just to share with you how persistent the new variants are, she had 5 days of Remdesevir infusions at the hospital, yet she still continued testing positive on RATs for a total of 14 days from the day of admission.
Infuriating FDA comments discussing Novavax. Their claim is that not too many people took it in the first place. Not many people took it in the first place because no one could effing find it! This vaccine could have done so much to alleviate hesitancy, being a traditional one!
@TheresaPsy
Thanks. She’s home and feeling better. High chance they got infected and are spreading it to others. 🤦♀️ I’ve been wearing a mask at home, except in my bedroom and use other mitigations, because she hasn’t been cautious - all reasons I believe I got spared.
@BlingSing
I understand but it makes no sense to expose yourself to a terrible disease and then possibly infect others, especially if you are asymptomatic or presymptomatic.
🧵A wild rapid test result that I have never seen mentioned before. COVID Twitter, read this to the end because it’s pretty shocking. On the 6th, an elderly family member got very sick & was taken to the hospital by an ambulance. Before they arrived I tried to do a rapid test. 1/
Big Novavax update❗️Spoke to FFF Enterprises, a huge national bio-supplier, who’s contracted to distribute Novavax. They are taking orders NOW but don’t have it in stock yet. They expect to be shipping the 3rd/4th week of October. Call your pharmacist & ask them to order it now.
🧵Fascinating studies. Get yourself a Blis K12 oral probiotic lozenge. Increases mucosal immunity response against COVID. In a study from Italy, ZERO children out of 33 in the experimental group tested positive for Covid, in comparison with 24 out of 46 in the control group. 1/
🧵 Negative on FlowFlex, negative on ABBOT, negative the following three days on multiple tests.
Maybe WHO should pay attention - they still haven’t loudly acknowledged that COVID is airborne. (I’m negative as well, so far. My DNA must now be pure Enovid) 5/
🧵 Fit-tested 7 respirators (with a bag & a Bitrex vaporizer), with some exciting & some disappointing results:
First, the losers:
Envo Mask - failed at the nose
FloMask - failed at the nose.
3M Aura 9205 - failed at the nose.
3M Aura 9210 - failed at the nose. Successes ⬇️
🧵 1/ This is the most insane deal I’ve ever found on N95 Gerson duckbills, the most breathable respirators. I’ll start from the end. Shipping is $27.09 for ten boxes of 35 respirators each. BUT!… one box of 35 masks is FIFTY CENTS! Yes, $0.50 a box.
Bad Novavax news. This is from a friend who called the FDA yesterday.
<<Called the FDA and got to a seemingly very serious department‘s voicemail. They called me back 15 minutes later!
“fall rollout is expected”
“fall=between today and early December”
Can’t comment further>>
🧵 P.S. Someone reminded me that at some point a person who was sick with COVID posted that they purposely directed a fan at the swab, in the room where they were convalescing, and the test turned positive without any other sample. The virus created a fomite? 6/
🧵 Then I started thinking: the vial was left open overnight in the sick person’s room. COVID is airborne. Is it possible the virus got into the vial without any sample? Retested the family member - NEGATIVE! 4/
🧵 As soon as that family member came back, I wanted to rapid test them. That open vial was still in the room but the rest of the test was sealed. I got it out of the package and did the test. Two bright red lines within seconds. Tell the person to isolate. 3/
🧵 I opened the FlowFlex vial but wasn’t able to test her because she was vomiting. At the hospital, she was diagnosed with COVID and is currently there, on steroids and Remdesevir. A family member went with her to the hospital and spent the night. 2/
🧵 Listen to this one. Ended up at the ER last night because of what turned out to be an erroneous blood test. Had it been correct, it could have been life-threatening. I’m fine.
Two nurses tried to pull down my mask, without asking, to take my temperature. 1/
@JReinerMD
That’s fantastic but also makes me so sad. When my mom had a heart attack, paramedics gave up after just a few minutes of CPR. I was in my car, driving over there, begging them to continue but the answer was no. Maybe had she been a young person, they would have given more time.
🚨 🧵 Major news update about BLIS K12 oral probiotic that created so much excitement that it’s out of stock. Let’s take it one at the time. You asked about using mouthwash and BLIS. I spoke to the New Zealand manufacturer today & here’s what they said & I’ll explain after: 1/
@arghavan_salles
This is an honest question - why carry a CO2 monitor with you if at an insanely high CO2 reading you don’t get up and leave immediately?
Here’s a great small company that listens. Many of us here have been bugging
@SIPmask
, a company that makes an easy valve that allows you to drink without removing your mask (like on a plane, for example), to change their photo from a surgical mask to an N95 & they heard us!👏 👏
🧵 😷 How to do a fun, amateur, inexpensive mask fit test, as promised. I’m not a professional in the field - simply sharing with you what I did in that last qualitative fit test that attracted 150 K pairs of eyeballs.
Please make sure to read the entire thread.
@chelleyluna
I see it differ a lot. 1st, chills. 2 days before my 911 call, she was sitting on the balcony, in a 90 degrees weather, wearing a winter coat. She’s very elderly and is usually cold but never to that extent. At the time I thought she was being dramatic. Then vomiting, malaise.
They wanted to take my photo, without a mask - I refused & they took one with the 😷 on. Upon discharge, yet another employee came to see me & said that they needed a photo with no mask, before I go, for security reasons. Mind you, they had a scan of my DL w/ my mug on it. 3/
@dianaberrent
You just posted a photo “outdoors” that was indoors. The fact that you’re not near people makes no difference- COVID is airborne. You should know that. Wear a mask indoors to protect others. Your judgement and choice of mask in the photo aren’t the best, I’m sorry to say.
You can easily take someone’s temperature under the armpit, it just takes a couple of extra seconds.
FYI, I was responding to all the questions about the Gersons clearance from a cot in a hospital hallway. 😂 2/
Someone asked what the SipMask was but I cannot find the question so let’s do it here. It’s a valve you can insert into your respirator that allows you to drink without removing the mask. Very handy on flights or long days indoors.
@LandoCatrisian
No. I tested someone else who doesn’t use Enovid. I’ve never had a false negative on myself. I test throat, cheeks, under the tongue and then the nose, on myself and others.
@monaeltahawy
I totally disagree. Someone wanted to make you feel good and you were rude back and made that person feel very awkward. I’m Jewish but when people say “Merry Christmas” to me, I don’t lecture them. I take it in the spirit it was intended, smile and say, “Thanks, same to you.”
A couple of things to add. I read that VFlex sometimes has horizontal tears along its “seams” so always inspect it before donning. You get a much better seal with any mask if you preshape the nose fold as a U, before donning & then adjust it once it’s on. Made a huge difference
Not as bad as
@JetBlue
was during boarding but still not great,
@Delta
. This is the number after boarding, everyone seated and doors closed, before departure. This CO2 level is way too high,
@Delta
. Please ventilate better.
2/ The company is trying to make room in their warehouse, so they’re basically giving them away. If you buy 10 boxes, you’ll pay $32.09 and each respirator will end up costing you about 9 cents. If you buy 20 boxes, one mask will cost about 7 cents.
@SueSueCurious
@RAKlotsky
Aura repeatedly failed the fit test on me & two other people I was testing with. All different shapes, sizes and ethnicities. Gerson passed on all three as did the VFLex. Aaron Collins, a professional mask tester gave VFlex the highest marks. So duckbills are great & maybe better
So 3 different face types. All 3 of us had leaks with the Aura 9210. The two women did better with Aura 9205. The petite woman had a leak with Gerson, but the other two of us passed. All 3 passed with VFlex, though none of us liked the feel and the look of it.
We knew exactly when the hearing about Pfizer and Moderna was going to take place. Why wouldn’t they give us a date for the Novavax hearing? This is what makes it a lot more troubling.
🧵 Why is NYU-Langone the ONLY medical center in NYC to suspend masking? I believe I figured it out.
In 2008, NYU Medical Center, as the institution was then known, was renamed the NYU Langone Medical Center in honor of Ken Langone, its chair of the Board of Trustees and… 1/
"2 Americans died from Covid in the time you've been listening to me speak. Another 2 will die in the next 5 minutes. An expected 500 dead total for the day."
Let's not give Biden a pass for "the pandemic is over." Imagine if Trump said it?
My monologue:
That is number THREE for FLOTUS who rejoiced in not wearing masks so she can enjoy your smile. According to FAUCI, she’s expendable and can fall by the wayside. By the way, having had COVID before is an underlying condition.
P.P.S. To the naysayers who say it was a chemical reaction & not COVID: I’m CVD- so far. Opened a vial yesterday & left it open all night in my room. Same weather conditions, only no one’s sick. Just tested myself on that & a sealed test - negative! Original hypothesis stands. 7/
@ikepoker
Congrats! Watched the match and rooted for you for being a great example. The only thing your respirator is missing is a SipMask valve, so you could drink, without lifting it. It fit-tested it and it passed.
NYU Langone is the only health organization in NYC to drop the mask requirement. As you can see, their top priority is our safety but apparently they forgot how SARS-CoV-2 spreads. As long as you wash your hands.
Santa Clara, California courts are doing the right thing. As soon as someone comes into court, a bailiff hands them a mask. It’s a surgical but still - thank God for small favors. The Santa Clara County has an order for masking in all medical facilities as well.
@kprather88
You cultivate a certain group of followers - at the very least, you shouldn’t be surprised. My ex got COVID taking his mask off for a picture for a minute. He held his breath.
🧵Very important Enovid/SaNOtize information, directly from the manufacturer, for people concerned about the side effects. Many look up nitric oxide interactions & side effects & assume that it would be the same for Enovid. I emailed them & they responded immediately so kudos. 1/
I have an average, maybe slightly large-ish face and a straight, medium size nose, so I was very surprised that both elastomerics, the FloMask and the Envo mask, failed at the nose.
I tested with two other women: one Asian and one very petite Caucasian, with a very small face.
New Covid subvariants have been named FU.1 & FU.2 - I kid you not. Said to be 50% MORE infectious than the current dominant strains, they’re just starting to spread worldwide. Is another wave coming? Should Pfizer call its upcoming booster F-off?..
🧵 They expect it to be back online around February 6, so be ready to buy then. Lastly, I asked them about other companies which sell BLIS K12, and after a bit of extra prodding they confirmed that MARS Wellness, for example, purchases its BLIS strains from them. /6
@Earth_Strike_
@TheresaPsy
Not fun, is it? No sense from her experience. Tomorrow, she's going back to her elderly day center (not sure what these are called) where they are all unmasked AND have lunch... 😭 "You have to live", she says. So tired of this...
@SueSueCurious
@RAKlotsky
Also, “go about your life”? During one of the biggest surges while most people don’t mask? “That’s it”? Please rethink your advice.
@AjvictoryMD
I think you should start from the premise that the patient could have been stressed, worried, confused and scared, even if he didn’t show it. Too often we tend to think that things are about us, when in reality it has nothing to do with us.
🧵 “We also recommend only using it once a week, waiting at least 30 minutes before you start populating with BLIS K12.” In other words, Cepacol is similar to any CPC mouthwash in the US. If you take BLIS, you can use any mouthwash only ONCE A WEEK, & at least 1/2 hour prior. 4/
@crimsonartist
Sorry he’s sick. What it says is: wear a well-fitting N95 whenever indoors and around people, and use a layered approach of ventilation, masking and air purification, if you want to avoid infection.
@AndreaWoo
So sad and wrong. Every time something disgusting happens here in US politics and I start longing to move to Canada, I’m sobered up by posts like yours.
5/ Make sure you get one that says that it has Blis K12, not just S. Salivarius K12. Blis K12 is a trademark of Blis Technologies and has a US patent. Whatever supplement contains Blis K12 specifically, you’ll be getting the exact same, correct strain.
@PleaseSavemich
Great job. One thing though. This purifier ( and I have it as well) will do almost nothing to clear the air in the room for the short duration you’re there. It will take a couple of hours. And it doesn’t create a bubble around you. Physics don’t work this way.
NYC Health, incl. Bellevue, just dropped the mask requirement for patients & is considering dropping it for employees. If employees sit behind a plexiglass partition, masks aren’t required, which makes no scientific sense. Contact William Hicks, the CEO, to ask for masks to stay.
"AstraZeneca said Thursday that its treatment, called AZD3152, appears to work in all variants to date, potentially providing necessary armor for immunocompromised people whose vaccinations have not given them enough protection, CBS News reported."
@sammons_vanessa
Are you even hearing what everyone is telling you? All those mitigations are something YOU should demand and advocate for. Do you wear a respirator in all indoor settings, do you never eat indoors? If the answer is NO to either, you are the one endangering your patients.
@phoenixkottawa
Come on. 1. They're not really "medical people". EMTs do not ever get fit-tested. 2. Any NIOSH approved N95 is better than no mask in the face of projectile vomiting. 3. COVID is just as, if not more dangerous, as TB. TB is SECOND deadliest infectious disease. Guess behind what?
@DaisyLouLantz
@ChuckWurster
Informations is not “crazy skewed”. Science is very clear on the benefits of boosters. There is not one credible virologist or epidemiologist who says not to get it. You’d be doing right by her and should get one yourself if you can.
🧵 As to how many to take for COVID prevention - they said to use it once or twice a day, as stated on the package. I’m sticking to once a day at bedtime, unless I expect a lot of exposure, like at a dentist’s, for example. As to the product’s shortage everywhere:
5/
Excited to hear that
@envomaskusa
is coming out with a half face respirator sometime in the beginning of 2023. According to
@ghhughes
, it’s already on the NIOSH 👍🏻 list. If you were eying the half face [breathe], which is hard to get in the US, perhaps this is worth the wait.
“Great question on mouth wash, and you’re right, mouthwashes will kill both the bad bacteria and our good BLIS bacteria but they are useful in ‘resetting’ the mouth when there is an over population of harmful bacteria.. We recommend… “ 2/
@PleaseSavemich
The literature says that it might “clean” a room up to 54 sq. feet in 20 minutes. The room you were in is undoubtedly larger. It would take hours to remove viruses. But even if it’s 54 sq feet, you’ll need at least 20 min. to make it safer. The filtered air disperses throughout
@Friesein
When you speak to a small pharmacy, let them know that Novavax pays them back for all unused doses. That was a huge selling point when I was convincing a couple of them to get Novavax.
🧵 “We recommend using a mouth wash that is branded ‘Cepacol’ here in New Zealand and that you can obtain from a pharmacy, but any mouthwash that contains the active ingredient Cetylpyridinium Chloride will be suitable. We also recommend… “ 3/
@JReinerMD
It’s likely much higher than 800. They cannot make anyone test. The only people who tested positive were those with symptoms who were proactive and asked to be tested. It’s probably triple that number.
@justnotatweeter
@alexmeshkin
This should not be your worry. Doctors rarely attribute anything to Long COVID. If anything, they tell the patient who thinks he has it to go see a psychiatrist
@thjustme81
@ceci_wallace
@chelleyluna
I'm glad it was mild but unfortunately, it doesn't mean much. This is more like HIV & AIDS. Things can unravel 6 months or a year later. Most people with Long Covid are young and had mild infections. Many people develop clots, have heart attacks and even cancer much later.
@James_Holzhauer
You didn’t say it but may have implied it. These are not two hosts, it’s just Mike Richards. Bialik is just lip service/PR ploy. You’ll see her when? Twice a year? That’s not two hosts. What BS
