Movie news!!! Here is the official Amazon trailer for the movie of my murder mystery musical, ‘The Mystery of Mr. E’ - which will be available exclusively on Amazon Prime from 25 November.
I could not adore this movie more - and all the wonderful cast and crew who made it!
14-year-old son: ‘Can I go back out & meet my mates again?’
Me: ‘Er, no, it’s after midnight.’
Him: ‘I don’t see why the sun’s position in the sky should affect my social life.’
Cambridge has a wonderful new mystery fiction bookshop! I can’t wait to visit and shop at Bodies in the Bookshop - and am delighted to see ‘The Killings at Kingfisher Hill’ in this blood-red window display!
We are driving to Cornwall (never done so before) and it’s fascinating - the longer we drive for, the further away Cornwall gets. The Sat Nav keeps adding hours to the journey. I’m expecting it soon to stop showing a number of hours and say instead ‘Ha, ha, you gullible fools!’
Thanks to Twitter writing-room chat yesterday, I have reclaimed and restored* my attic writing room. This is where I’ll be working from now on.

We're excited to confirm that there will be a new
#Poirot
continuation novel from Sophie Hannah, arriving in 2022! That gives you plenty of time to catch up on the detective's four most recent adventures
Little known fact: in my first ever Proper Job, I got bollocked when my boss found out I was regularly answering my phone and saying, ‘Detective Lacey, Fourteenth Precinct.’
First time ever on the Cornwall to London ‘Night Riviera’ train. There’s no sign of any murder mysteries yet, but I’m keeping my eye out for untoward pipe cleaners and charred fragments of notes.
Today is officially Brewstie Memorial Day - and the one-year anniversary of his death. He was the best and most loyal and loving of dogs, and is now helping me write my next book in a spiritual and magic way that most people won’t believe in but I do.
I am biased of course, but I think my husband’s latest artwork is just brilliant!! Cornwall peeps: come along and see it in at his solo exhibition at St Ives Arts Club, 5-8 August!
Finished Poirot no. 5 at 4 am this morning - so treating myself to a freeeezing cold swim! Still trimming/editing to be done, of course, but…finished!!!
Thanks so much - in a big way, seriously - to everyone who has sent nice thoughts and wishes about Brewstie. It has been the hugest help and consolation - Twitter is so brilliant. Today we managed to have a lovely (if slightly tearful) lunch to celebrate my son’s birthday.
Beyond thrilled to announce that HTG is **no. 4** in the paperback fiction chart this week! Woohoo and huge thanks to all who have bought/read/enjoyed/supported it!
I’m not sure it’s possible to be jollier than I am today! I have...finished my book!!!! Finished it! Handed it in! Now recuperating with Brewstie, husband and mum at a blissful cottage in Essex!
It’s UK Poirot publication day!! Hip hip hooray! There’s nothing I love more than an unguessable (and yet so simple) motive, and there’s deffo one of those in this book…
“I was thrilled to see Poirot in such very, very good hands.”―Gillian Flynn
“Perfect…a pure treat for Agatha Christie fans.”― Tana French

Off to London for the Nibbies!! I have dressed smartly (because my mum bossed me around and said I should) but I am also wearing (sparkly, to be fair) flip-flops because flip-flops are my religion.
Me: How do you decide whether to make something a post or a story on Instagram?
Daughter: You just know.
Me: But what if you don’t just know?
Her: Then you’re old.
A finished copy of my book about happiness has arrived!! So beautiful, with bumpy key on cover! Out next week. It’s a mystery *and* a self-help book. It contains philosophers, life-coaches, mentions of Poirot, highly grudgeworthy people and more. I really loved writing it!
In hospital for gallbladder removal (stoney critter, had to go) and first Q they asked when I arrived was: ‘Do you mind a room with a courtyard view?’ I nearly said ‘Does Mr Hurt-His-Head have a room opposite?’ (

I am BEYOND DELIGHTED to announce that 'The Mystery of Three Quarters' goes into the Sunday Times Top Ten at no. 7, after its first three days sales! Thank you so much to everyone who has bought/supported/enthused!
Important announcement: this stuff is a joy, a delight, a necessity and the best thing ever. Massage it into your temples before bed and...just *amazing* things will happen - relaxation, deep sleep, weird and nice high feeling (aromatherapeutic, not druggy). 10/10.
I have major news! Thrilling new deal with the incredible
@bedsqpublishers
- 3 books, the first of which is about a family that does the unthinkable!!

Magpie rules are different at the moment, right? I saw one magpie in one place, then about 200 metres away, ten minutes later, I saw another magpie. That counts as two for joy, because it’s a pair of magpies doing social distancing, I have decided.
Dramatic and exciting news! I have a cover reveal for you - for my new thriller, Haven't They Grown, which is out in Jan and available for preorder right now! (I believe there's some other dramatic and exciting news today, but mine has a cool and creepy video!)
We are so thrilled to reveal the cover for

today - my favourite shirt I have ever owned, seriously. Based on a Liberty print. Birthday prez - I am 49 today!! Best birthday of life so far because...only one so far to involve lake swimming.
This is so weird - the consultant who is v kindly sewing up my knee has just finished reading Closed Casket and is now going off to find it so I can sign it!
It’s exciting announcement time!! So pleased to be doing three more contemporary psych thrillers/Simon & Charlies with the lovely

📖📣 We are thrilled to announce a new short story collection starring Agatha Christie's detective Jane Marple. 12 talented writers will reimagine Marple through their own unique perspective while staying true to the hallmarks of a traditional mystery
This beautiful Ocean Jasper stone is my present/reward to myself for writing 1500 words a day or more since 1 Feb. (Husband’s response, said wistfully, ‘I wish a polished pebble was enough to incentivise me.)
Made a list of all Agatha’s Poirots - my top fave to my least fave. You may well disagree, and that is *fine*. But I have v good reasons and am happy with my order! This a personal faves league table, not a ‘best to worst’ that makes any claim to objective correctness!
My favourite character in every box set is the reliable vet/former nurse who you can visit in the middle of the night if you need a bullet digging out of your thigh. They always live in a cabin in the woods and mutter, ‘I’ve done my best but you should really go to a hospital.’
I am tired this morning. It is the fault of an *outrageously* gripping not-yet-published thriller. Was supposed to be reading it to advise on which agents to approach, & ended up gasping in suspense till 2 am! Can’t say more now, but a treat is on the way for psych thriller fans.
Who can guess why I’m looking so excited? Am I going a) to an early screening of a not-yet-released movie, b) to Egypt, c) to meet my daughter in London, or d) kind of all of the above?
Looks who’s on the 2.03 from Paddington… It’s none other than Poirot, or rather, the bound proof of my fifth book about him, Hercule Poirot’s Silent Night!
Mes amis!! Thrilled to report that

I’ve always thought (since honeymoon in 2000): one day I’ll swim in Lake Como. Today I did, for the first time. It was terrifying!! Constant massive waves and nearly couldn’t get out. Just goes to show…something. Not sure what!

So....my amazing news today is that Haven’t They Grown is a Richard and Judy Book Club pick!!! I could not possibly be more thrilled. And yesterday I chatted to Richard and Judy for an hour (for their podcast) which was ace!

Husband (usually v laid back and amenable) is refusing to promise that we can get an English Bull Terrier one day. He’s saying things like ‘We’ll see.’ Grr. How can he be in any doubt?! I mean...
I’ve just finished this *amazing* crime novel. Wow. Can’t imagine it not being my book of the year. So, so clever, exciting and gripping. The very last twist made me GOL (gasp out loud). Deserves to be a No. 1 bestseller and major Netflix drama or Hollywood movie!

In Salford v early to do BBC Breakfast! I’ll be discussing how annoying it is that I woke up an hour before my alarm went off, on my one puppy-free night. No, not really. I’ll be discussing my new Poirot book and maybe The Mystery of Mr. E movie if there’s time.
I’m on 8.40-ish!
If you’re ever the protagonist in a TV drama and someone flat-out refuses (with great hostility) to speak to you or answer your questions, make sure to give them your card. They will *definitely* contact you approx one hour later, eager to tell all. No exceptions.
Just received an email asking if I want to design a range of nail polishes for a brand. I've told them I'm pretty sure they want and not me, but if by any chance they want a frizzy-haired crime writer range of nail varnish, then I'm up for it.
4 letters have arrived, accusing seemingly innocent people of murder. The letters are signed by Hercule Poirot. But why? The Mystery of Quarters is out now 🇬🇧. See
