The original version of Sonic X episode 52's rose scene was animated to and aired with the song "Natsu No Hi." The imagery matches the beats. The lyrics are poetic narrations of Sonic's perspective.
Sonic is confessing he loved Amy from the start.

Sonic not only found the bracelet Amy made for him, but he also fixed it (salvaging what he could of the original string) and wore it (1/3)

During the June 2022 #ソニックステーションLIVE (Sonic Station Live), Sonic is described to "accept Amy's forever" by Kazuyuki Hoshino. He deliberately flipped it. That's why Amy was surprised, then happy!
Here is the summary from an official SEGA account!

Despite the fact that they muted Sonic's words for the audience, it's painfully obvious he says, "I love you, Amy."
His lips perfectly form the phrase, "Aishiteimasu, Emī". For demonstration:

Though Sonic X isn't "canon" to the games:
A) It featured Sonic Team's vision
B) Shiro Maekawa confirmed the existence of official SEGA character templates and direct involvement (highlight S2)
C) it has Sonic Channel cameos
D) Sonic game writers worked on the (SonAmy) episodes

(🧵) "Hikaru Michi" replaced "Natsu No Hi" in later releases, but it still has a romantic tone. In fact, it's more direct with romance (e.g., "let's kiss in secret")!
The lyrics echo the canon narrative of Amy and Sonic's romance having a veil of secrecy.

While Sonic X's famous rose scene was animated and fit most with "Natsu No Hi", "Hikaru Michi" is nothing to sleep on.
One of the two times it was used for Sonic and Amy was this ending credit. The loving lyrics again are on the nose with the imagery.

It's fun to observe Sonic's behavior with Amy post-episode 52. You could argue there is subtle behavior and growth. He is less likely to push against her and more likely to stick around or entertain her. He is also quite protective. Here are some examples!

The animators could've cut corners by just ditching the bracelet, reusing its first model, or even just recoloring the string to imply it's a new fix.
However, they went out of their way to show (but not tell!) Sonic's sincere care and appreciation for Amy's gift. (2/3)
It would've been easier to outright replace the string, but Sonic wanted to keep everything original he could in tact.
He too kept this to himself, so it wasn't like it was a polite stunt to make Amy (who didn't know the bracelet's fate) feel better. Take that as you will! (3/3)

Did you know that in Sonic X, there are multiple photographs that show Sonic and Amy interacting with one another? One of them appears framed and inside Amy's home.
You can see it in focus for a bit during the famous episode 52 reunion scene!

The accompanying video wasn't attached, which is honestly perfect since it gives us an excuse to post Sonic saying Amy's heartbeat connects and stirs his own. What a small detail to overlook, but powerful and sweet. Notice all the intentional camera cuts.

5. "Your heartbeat is coming like a wave to my heart."
Amy is running like she's a track star to him, with her heartbeat to match.
This moves Sonic and his own heart. It's as though their hearts and their beatings are connected.
In the January 26th, 2022 BumbleKast Q&A, head comicbook writer (previously Archie and now IDW) Ian Flynn did not deny that Sonic and Amy canonically have crushes on one another. 👀
Even if we set that aside, Amy told Sonic to just tell her that he loved her. As an immediate response, Sonic bent down to her level, whipped out a rose, and gave a positive reply. In reply, Amy is overwhelmed, crying harder while hugging him (who is sheepishly smiling).
1. "That night you weren't in your room but I didn't ask you anything. I couldn't be apart from you."
Amy left her room at night to chase after Super Sonic (who ironically was seeking her out upon his return, he "couldn't be apart from her"). He never questions this, though.
In SA1, Sonic's story interestingly shows him and Amy walking side by side the entire time. He doesn't object to Amy's assertions of taking care of Birdie either. However, in Amy's story, he initially takes off with her trying to catch up. (1/3)

4. "You called my name for the first time on a summer day. I started to fall in love with you."
The lavender rose Sonic gives her, in flower language, means "love at first sight."
📍 Did you know that Kiyoko Yozhimura also written for Sonic X including episodes like episode 9, The Last Resort?
While this is a small factoid, it's interesting to see that a writer who had given us big SonAmy moments X too worked on this game too, yet again giving us SonAmy!
It's kind of funny how we still get abrasive or condescending comments saying that we are wrong and "seeing what we want to see" for saying, "Sonic says he loves Amy in Sonic X" when... Sonic says he loves Amy in Sonic X.
Hmm. A bit lost for words on this one.
There was unmistakablely a love song playing in the background, too. What other thing could he have possibly said based on the context clues?
The following will be core examples showing how "Natsu No Hi" works together with animation to depict the scene from Sonic's perspective.
To add on this, context wise the ice cream Sonic has is indeed Amy's official one. It's called, "Sunday date with Amy", actually.

(🏖) Speaking of the bracelet, did you know that Sonic's Japanese VA had a model of it? Amy's Japanese VA posted a picture of her alongside him with it on during a karaoke event. He also had the following to say about the animation!

2. "By any means, from now on, please accompany me to that sea."
The sea Sonic sees after he lands (now out of Super Sonic form) is shown, slowly panned up to.
3. "The sky will soon dawn white." Immediately, as if on cue, the sky turns white with the light of dawn.
The game Sonic Riders (Zero Gravity) features subtle details concerning Sonic and Amy:
A) Sonic immediately runs to push Amy out of the way and shields her
B) When Jet yells at Amy, Sonic is seen defensively flinching and agitated at his aggressive movements before intervening
5. "Your heartbeat is coming like a wave to my heart."
Amy is running like she's a track star to him, with her heartbeat to match.
This moves Sonic and his own heart. It's as though their hearts and their beatings are connected.
This is why we bother mentioning Sonic X. It's still a valuable source that carries a considerable amount of weight. It's more than just a mere spin-off to haphazardly dismiss. It has canon compliance and official involvement.
Food for thought. 😊

The status quo is that third parties won't fully or explicitly hear or see the depth of Sonic's feelings. We guess or get implications.
Even when Amy tries to publicize it, she's cut off from revealing anything. Once again, restoring that veil of secrecy.

There were several official mangas that featured SonAmy. An example is the 4Koma(?) Sonic manga. In one instance, Sonic fanticizes of a love scene between himself and Amy!
The words in the bubble with him and Amy (ブシーンや) means "love scene and..."!

Based on this and especially the JP version of the game, it's likely that Sonic didn't percieve it as him running or wanting to get away from her, but Amy seen it as him (unintentionally) outpacing her with his speed and "leaving" her behind.

(Note that the quote had to be simplified for the character limit, but the full lyric quote is in the screenshots. Sonic X episode 52's reunion scene was animated to the "Natsu No Hi" love song, and it shows.).
Sonic and the Secret Rings (2007) has a special book! In atleast the English version, it says that Amy is Sonic's "ever-cheerful love interest" under Chapter 1.

📍In a boss fight in Arid Sands, Sonic compliments Amy at Dark Guardian's expense, saying she was better wielding a hammer than his strong, current opponent.
Amy jumped to his mind and he vocalized praise for her even when she wasn't there to hear it. 🤔
Sonic is aloof and awkward with Amy sometimes (normally when romantic-esque enters the picture), including in the game.
The game is practically telling us that this is Sonic's general nature in relation to romance, which contextualizes a lot of his reactions towards Amy.
It's worth noting that the English version of the game changed Sonic's acceptance to denial and had Amy retort with a "don't run away".
This is arguably an odd localization choice; it makes it seem as if their perspectives of the same event are that inconsistent. (3/3)
To add the sweet to the bitter, Amy directly counters his insecurities. In a way, she consoles him by offering unconditional love, support, recognition, appreciation, and effective reassurances no one else provided him with.
Just from these interactions, we see that Sonic considerably cares for Amy and her opinion of him. Furthermore, he holds her to a special standard.
He didn't want her to see him in his werehog state, unlike with Tails or Chip (which speaks volumes).
📍Louie Mountaine is an NPC who functions as some sort of love guru for Sonic. Through his interaction with Sonic, we are informed that Sonic is "awkward" when it comes down to romance. Furthermore, he is "too aloof".
Sonic is aloof towards Amy at times, including in the game.
This isn't only in Sonic X. It's just explored the most in the anime.
A mutual love between Sonic and Amy being real but ambigious or "hidden" is in the game canon, too. We will save that for another thread, but see these games for one:
□ Sonic '06
□ Sonic Unleashed
□ SA2
Unlike "Natsu No Hi" which furthermore gave one perspective (Sonic's), "Hikaru Michi" seems to give two unique ones that settle into a shared one, finding common ground or a mutual want. It captures different emotions that fit Amy and Sonic respectively.

📍Talking to Amy post-Egg Lancer battle and pre-Eggmanland gives you her final dialogue. This is when the famous date proposal occurs. The player has the option to choose "yes" or "no" for Sonic.
In fact, Amy gave him exactly what he needed as well as deserved for all of what he was going through and for all he did for others. She offers him with an emotional outlet. She gives him relief and stability.
Breaking News: a shipping account posts sweet interactions between the characters of the ship.
Also, mind you, this is from the same bit where it's confirmed that Sonic accepted her "eternal love." Amy is not Tails. Her dynamic with Sonic inherently reads differently.
It's a consistent detail that Sonic and Amy's romance are a private affair. "Let's kiss in secret, like an old picture book we're unable to read."
We don't hear Sonic's "I love you." Though that's clearly what he said, only Amy knows and hears the full extent of his confession.
In the dialogue shown below, Chip asks Sonic if he likes someone.
Sonic’s reply is censored (a common trend with SonAmy, you'll see), though it is implied through Chip’s excited response (“there is!”) that Sonic’s response is confirmational of him liking someone.
Despite it being presented as a choice the player answers, Sonic's answer was likely a canonical "yes" since they have a date in the following game, Sonic and The Black Knight!

While this isn't inherently romantic, we find this detail cute! It subtly shows that Sonic cares and can be protective over Amy. As if it were a reflex, he looks out for her and acts defensively (even when she isn't near him).
Take this as you will!
▪︎ Sonic: mouths "I love you, Amy."
▪︎ Background songs: has lyrics like "Please... Time... Don't try this love." and "Let's kiss in secret."
> "He's just being nice, SonAmy is not canon. He doesn't love her, you're seeing what you want to see!"
📍Throughout Sonic Unleashed, players have the option to buy foods from various shops to feed Chip. By doing this, the player slowly gains Chip's trust, and, as a result, unlocks dialogue revealing personal information about Chip and Sonic himself.

When Amy finally comes to her decision and braces herself, Sonic returns. You can imagine the whirlwind of emotions going on in Amy's mind and why she just told Sonic to say that he loved her.
Square all this exasperating doubt away. Prove Eggman wrong.
And he does.

English version: Sunday date with Amy!
[In reference to the ice cream the Sonic plushie holds] A sweet and cute expression of Amy's classic color motif (i.e., it is pink, red, green, white, and yellow, which are Amy's colors!) 2/3
Again, it's really worth noting that this was after the rose scene, which was a pivotal moment in their relationship. While shenanigans ensue and Sonic isn't too lovey-dubey (he isn't the character for that), he doesn't fight much against and is visibly awestruck by her more.
Mind you, you don't have to ship Sonic and Amy. It's not everyone's cup of tea! We are also referring to Sonic X in particular.
There is a time when we need to be honest with ourselves, though.
Remember: This is after the Meterex Saga, which ended in gloom (Cosmo's death, Tails's heartbreak, group departure from Chris and his world). The context of this scene is Sonic returning from Earth after being kept behind. He goes to Amy first, who is going through inner turmoil.

Here you guys go, here is Evan Stanley's (head writer now) statement corroborating it. If you want Ian Flynn's statement confirming it also since this wasn't enough for you, that can be posted.
Next time ask questions first, accusations and assumptions later.
For the past week, Amy was grieving and going crazy stupid, not knowing what to do, running into dead ends. The only thing she could conclude was to wait for him.
Indeed, it was like a world was under a spell. A sad, depressive spell.
