Player report | Sam Silvera
Pompey are set to announce their third senior signing of the summer with Sam Silvera arriving on loan from Middlesbrough.
Here’s what we can expect to see.
Shares and feedback are appreciated. 💙

#Pompey
have been inside the top two of League One since September 19th.
During that time, a total of seven days have been spent outside of 1st position.
John Mousinho showing his worth.
Player report: Josh Murphy
Josh Murphy has become our second summer signing arriving from Oxford, let’s take a look at what he can bring to the table.
Grateful for all shares and feedback. 🩵
#Pompey
Is there anyone actually moaning about the signing of Peart-Harris?
Cause I’ve seen more tweets saying ‘don’t moan about the signing’ than those of fans actually moaning.
#Pompey
During the 2023/24 season,
#Pompey
substitutes have made a total of 15 league goal contributions that helped win a minimum of 13 extra points.
8 goals & 7 assists.
1/3
From when John Mousinho took charge on the 20th of January last year, only 9 players remain.
Joe Rafferty
Zak Swanson
Sean Raggett
Ryley Towler
Connor Ogilvie
Marlon Pack
Tom Lowery
Joe Morrell
Colby Bishop
#Pompey
Initially thought it was bizarre to take Lang off for Saydee, that’s why I’m not the manager & good thing I’m not.
Credit to everyone involved, I’ll remember that atmosphere during added time for a while.
Post-match analysis out next week.
10 to go.
#Pompey
Regan Poole didn’t need crutches or a boot when he suffered a season ending injury.
Colby Bishop needed both as a precaution & ended up missing a few weeks.
You just never know, hopefully it’s just a precaution with McIntyre & nothing serious. 🤞

Portsmouth 4-1 Northampton Town | 🧵THREAD🧵
- Making the most of set-pieces
- Pack's excellence
- How Mousinho got it spot on
- Lang's impressive start
- Did the red card change anything?
All that & more.
Likes, RT's & comments all welcome 💙

#EFL
I wouldn’t change anything for Bolton, the midfield of Pack, Robertson & Saydee complement each other so well, three different profiles who make a brilliant midfield, for me Mousinho has got to stick with that & Morrell will have to make do for a place on the bench.
#Pompey
Full-time thoughts:
- Mousinho got it spot on throughout
- Breathtaking first 15 minutes
- Stayed on front foot after red card
- What a start for Lang
- Lane looked more lively cutting in
- Fratton Park crowd something else when it’s on
- Got to appeal that decision
#Pompey
Positives from today:
- 3 points
- Very good debut from Peart-Harris
- Ogilvie back
- Lowery 90 minutes
- Created chances
- Wingers heavily involved
- Imminent transfer business
#Pompey
As it stands:
Macey ❌
Rafferty ✅ (2 years)
Swanson ✅ (activate option)
Raggett ❌
Ogilvie ❌
Evans ❌
Morrell ✅ (activate option)
Pack ✅ (1 year/option of further tear)
Martin ❌
This is just my opinion.

There’s a reason why I refrained from tweeting when I had doubts about the starting lineup, let it play out.
Sir John Mousinho has done it again.
Nine clear, seven to go.
It’s actually happening isn’t it?
#Pompey
IF Alex Robertson does become available on a permanent deal, we HAVE to be all over it.
Man City sold Tommy Doyle for £4.3m, he was a year older, had experience of Championship football including a promotion & the Bundesliga.
Robbo enters the final year, he could be available…
Tom McIntyre | 🧵 THREAD 🧵
I wanted to do my own review on one of our January signings, so decided to make a thread on our imminent arrival.
Shares & feedback appreciated 💙
#Pompey
#EFL
One thing that's been noticeable is Marlon Pack's role as more of an advanced 8 with Lowery playing as the deep-lying midfielder.
It did confuse me a bit at first but now I can absolutely see why this is the case.

2-2 Charlton

- Lane lively
- Should've scored more

Think I might have one or two in the
#Pompey
fanbase who aren’t a big fan of this page & seem to take weird digs at a guy who’s just trying to grow his page.
Still, that’s the world we live in I guess, nothing you can do but get on with it.
As one man said, just keep going!
I have the number of signings currently needed at 7, this is assuming those offered new deals resign.
Backup GK
RB
RCB (who can also play LCB)
Alex Robertson
CAM (who can also play CM)

Interested in your opinions.

🧵 How
#Pompey
can beat Blackpool:
- A focus on defensive setup & attacking structure
- Offside trap
- Crunching the centre of the pitch
- Combating wide overloads
- Positional interchanges
All that & more in this pre-game thread.
💬Mous on Lang: “I wouldn’t class him as an out-and-out winger, he’s more of an attacking midfielder or a forward. He has a track record of goalscoring at this level - which is something not shy about admitting we’ve been lacking.”

Portsmouth News
You can’t blame it on injuries alone, we look a complete shadow of ourselves.
No urgency, no creativity, no confidence, no patterns of play.
We’ve been sussed out, tactical tweaks & signings needed badly.
#Pompey
Promotion scenarios on Saturday:
Win: Promoted as champions
Draw: Promoted if Derby fail to win
Lose: Promoted if Derby & Peterborough lose
Only way we can win the league on Saturday is by winning, but can still win promotion without a win pending on other results.

#EFL
This would be my squad for the first game as it stands.
Starting XI:
Norris
Williams Shaughnessy McIntyre Ogilvie
Moxon Pack
Lane Lang Murphy
Bishop
Subs:
Archer, Towler, Sparkes, Lowery, Devlin, Saydee, Whyte, Silvera, Yengi
Portsmouth's league record in 2023/24 when conceding first:
Games: 15
Won: 7
Drew: 4
Lost: 4
Points won: 25
Scored: 26
Conceded: *11
Bouncebackability
*Not including 1st goal conceded in these games
#Pompey
Half-time thoughts:
- Saydee MOTM
- Yengi runs in behind are a threat
- Raggett shutting the critics up
- Lane has been a real threat
- Robertson is such a class player
- Another assist for Sparkes
- Set-up has been spot on
#Pompey
Brilliant night for
#Pompey
all round.
I’m aiming to release the post-match thread for Wednesday afternoon but just a few things to mention.
- High turnovers
- Yengi masterclass
- Norris a class above with distribution
- Raggett CAN play out from the back
I do believe that Gavin Whyte has his part to play for
#Pompey
in the Championship.
I'm thinking matches where we'll have less of the possession, his defensive work, speed and ball-carrying will be important in those type of matches.
We certainly haven't seen the best of him,

All that & more 👇
Likes, RT's & quote tweets all massively appreciated.
Team for tomorrow:
Norris
Rafferty/Devlin Raggett Shaughnessy Ogilvie/Sparkes
Morrell Pack
Kamara Peart-Harris Lane

If Rafferty plays, Sparkes at LB. If Devlin plays, Ogilvie at LB.

haven’t kept a clean sheet at home since the 2-0 win against Bolton back in December, a run that’s stretched to 13 games.
Random time to tweet this pointless stat but interested to see if anyone else was aware?
1. Opposition analysis: Blackpool

#UTMP
I reckon six more signings are now needed.
RB (U21 player who can be developed)
RCB
Advanced midfielder (should be main priority)
Deep-lying midfielder
Creative attacking midfielder
RW
Bonus if we sign a LB.

Delighted to say that I’ve passed the
@ThePFSA
Level 2 in Performance Analysis course.
For those looking to get into football analysis, I’d highly recommend this course.
Sounds crazy but I’m actually not that worried, we’ve got options to see us through January in Devlin & Saydee, we don’t have the hardest fixture list coming up & still have the January transfer window to strengthen.
Patience is a virtue.
#Pompey
ℹ️ John Mousinho has confirmed that Alex Robertson has torn his hamstring and it’s unlikely he will feature again this season
💙 Sending you our best wishes, Robbo
#Pompey
At this stage of the season, results are head & shoulders above performance.
Would much rather have a team that scratch & claw to grind out results.
Hope Lowery’s injury isn’t too bad.
#Pompey
Btw so many people wetting the bed over Mousinho’s quotes about Lang’s best position, he ends up playing him in his preferred right half-space.
Get on your knees & beg for forgiveness.
#Pompey
Raggett was the last
#Pompey
player to have played under Kenny Jackett having signed initially on loan in June 2019.
As it stands, Connor Ogilvie is set to become the club’s longest serving player having signed in August 2021, less than three years ago.
A massive honour to have my signing recommendations included on The News website.
Many thanks to
@pn_mark_mcmahon
for the approach & opportunity.

I’ve been reflecting on the progress I’ve made since I started 6 months ago & I believe I’ve come a long way from the days of basic shapes, dodgy animations & Paddy Lane at LWB.

Delighted for Robbo, if anyone deserves a goal it’s him.
Saydee deserves credit as well, funny how we move the ball quick with movement & we score, that’s the cohesion we’ve been lacking all night.
#Pompey
The thing is, most of those who slate Twitter analysts for doing something they love have zero understanding of football tactics themselves & the amount of detail required.
Remember that before you let their meaningless words get to you.
And on that note, goodnight.
Thanks to all who have reached out & commented down below.
I don’t intend to make enemies nor copy anyone, just a young kid from the South Coast aiming to fulfil his football ambition.
I promise I’m just getting started!

🧵5 Centre-backs
#Pompey
could look to sign in January based on Data:
After the news that Regan Poole is set to miss the rest of the season, The Blues will need to be in the market for a CB in the next transfer window.
I look at 5 options who could fit the bill.
Football's annoying new breed of stats 'analysts' have no idea how ridiculous they sound. Defending deep is now, according to them, 'a low block'. Dribbling is now 'progressive ball carrying'. Shut up, wankers.
Bishop’s back to goal link up play is among the best in the division, but some will try to have you believe that he doesn’t offer anything outside the box. 🤷♂️
#Pompey
🧵 {THREAD} 🧵
This is how the squad profile would look assuming those who are offered extensions stay on & doesn't include possible outgoings, this is of course subject to change.
I'd advise to read the full thread before commenting.

This upcoming pre-season will be crucial for quite a few
#Pompey
players, it could even go a long way into determining the futures for one or two of them.
Tom McIntyre, Jack Sparkes, Tom Lowery and Gavin Whyte all need strong pre-season campaigns.
