@RaleighReporter I agree. As a crime reporter I know what I do can be horribly exploitative if you’re not super careful. It’s disappointing to see others covering crime not using the same amount of care. These are people, not fodder for views.

Really thoughtful thread on issues with crime reporting + the problem with recent trends of social media "journalism" - as a crime reporter I find myself frustrated on the daily by the misinformation spread by FB "crime watch" pages & the like
Crime coverage without context has been a staple of local news for years. Smartly, newsrooms in recent years have elected to try to walk away from it. Yet that, in turn, has led to a rise of social media/nextdoor/FB accounts devoted to doing what we used to do. A 🧵 1/
