The Week That Was: Davos Edition (18–26 January) 🌍 Last week, I was part of the South Africa government delegation at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, advancing our digital priorities and building strategic partnerships. 🤝 Met with Saudi Arabia, Estonia, and Finland to strengthen collaboration in AI, digital governance, and fibre network investment. 📲 Engaged with TikTok to explore creator opportunities and promote online safety, while collaborating with Uber to improve passenger and driver safety and address regulatory challenges. 🔒 Participated in global discussions on cybersecurity, AI, space technology, and workforce readiness, showcasing South Africa’s leadership in innovation. 📄 Chaired the SITA AGM, ensuring a smooth leadership transition and strengthening the digital backbone of public services. 🇿🇦 Building on the momentum from Davos, we’ll continue driving investments, fostering innovation, and creating opportunities for all South Africans. 👉 Full update here:

Yesterday, I attended the final AGM of the State Information Technology Agency’s (SITA) current board, whose term ends this month. As we close this chapter, we look ahead with renewed optimism, confident that the incoming board will successfully drive SITA’s mandate of digital transformation in South Africa. The DCDT will continue providing oversight to ensure a smooth transition and prevent any leadership vacuum.

Final day at Davos: Today, we signed the C4IR South Africa agreement to drive innovation and 4IR technologies. I met with my Estonia counterpart to explore partnerships on digital governance and how we can use their expertise to improve service delivery. At a Google panel, I dug into how AI is reshaping global labor markets and what it means for our workforce. I also joined discussions on how space technology can tackle climate change and disaster management. These conversations are all about attracting investment and positioning South Africa as a leader in the global digital economy🌍🛰️🇿🇦

Day 3 at Davos was all about driving growth and attracting investment in South Africa’s digital economy. We met with Mastercard and Business Unity SA to explore partnerships and opportunities for digital innovation. We also engaged with Uber on their expansion plans for South Africa, focusing on improving driver vetting and enhancing rider experiences. I joined two panels on open wallets, discussing global collaboration for secure and inclusive digital platforms. Through these engagements, we are shaping key debates and positioning South Africa as a hub for digital investment and growth🌎📡
