My parents happened to be visiting last wk when I hit 4 years clean/sober.
I didn’t even tell them because they’re more embarrassed about my addiction than proud of my recovery.
Their (lack of) response would’ve only upset me.

Although I only work 3 days per week (thanks to sobriety!), I choose to work most wknds since there’s something so invigorating about spending them this way after 2 decades were spent being hungover & bedridden!

I became addicted to opioids at the young age of 17—after breaking my nose playing basketball—when I was prescribed way too many.
They had a stronghold on my life until age 33.
Now I’m 37 & so grateful that I no longer crave ‘em because it’s hell on earth.

I was prescribed Oxy after a sports injury & quickly became addicted at just 17.
I was buying it on the street by age 18.
D1 scouts had been watching me since the 8th grade but I quit playing since I didn’t care anymore.

Had a great time seeing The Beach Boys, and my grand total was $4 for the 16 oz (Bubly lime) sparkling water I ENJOYED drinking!

Had a heart operation in late 2011 but still felt crappy & required three cardiac meds per day.

My grandma died on Valentine’s Day.
How did I handle it?
I went straight to my dealer & used my bereavement for a 3-day bender.
Even took a dude I had never met (from Tinder!) back home with me for the funeral…WTF?!
Numbing will only PROLONG & EXACERBATE the pain.
