This is Bocephus. Found him fishing in the mountains east of here on 4/21/22. Was nearly starved to death and very weak when he wondered up to me on riverbank. People abandon animals up there, is what some people told me in the nearby village. So I brought him home with me.

My Old Man, retired as of a couple years now from working as a welder & machinist, is an amateur astronomer now. His telescope and platform he built for it last summer. His first photo was of the Horse Head Nebula, it took 88 minutes of data to generate. One of his many hobbies.

My great x8 grandparents, William & Mary Belew Winters. William fought under Jackson at the Battle of New Orleans in 1815. Mary Belew was Norman French, I often wonder how she ended up in Southern Appalachia. Mary lived to be 97 years old (1763-1859). Up in Burke County, NC.

Thanks for mentioning our problems, Mr. Logos. Over the years I have worked to find various NGOs and “charitable orgs” that further erode the Heritage Appalachian’s way of life. Look up the Highlander Folk School, Hood to Holler, Concerned Appalachians, there’s many more.
We all grew up hearing histrionic sob stories about how it feels to be an invisible demographic nobody cares for, or will dare speak a public word in defense of..
Ironically, the best example of this is the poor White Appalachian.. with skyrocketing drug addiction and suicide

Morel season will be here in Southern Appalachia here in a few weeks. Always had luck finding yellow morels under our wild apple trees back home in April. Very good breaded & fried. I haven’t ever tried any of the other mushrooms on this list though…

It’s amazing, looking back at how the TVA transformed parts of East TN and Western NC. I have mixed feelings overall about TVA… I love fishing in the lakes, it provides decent jobs, but damn I hate the man who brought it to fruition. Also it displaced many farmers & villages.
