Last day I talked to my dad was this day in 2015. Hard to believe 6 years has passed. He had 4 grandkids back then, with 2 more on the way. 12 now. Lost a father, mentor, business partner and friend not long after that. Here’s hoping I can be 1/2 the man he was.
Photos from last springs ride on the home 1/2. Patriarch of Smith Family Farms passed last night, he will be missed. Thankful for the years we had, yet always want a few more.
Happy 60th Dad! Just over 5 years now without you, thankful for the years we had but would have loved a few more. Celebrating by getting some more crop in the bin, like many of your birthdays in the past.
Sobering thought as I work in the field today: no one in the field imagined a world in 10 years where only I was left. Just a reminder you only have one life on earth, so live it well, take time for the stuff that matters. Someday sooner than you think it might be gone. 4/4
A wrap on year 140 on this field, putting on fertilizer for crop 141 next year. 6th generation farming the land, sister is the 7th living on it. How far we’ve come in that time.
First time working this 1/4 as it’s owner. Thankful for relationships that let it happen. Hopefully someday I can return the favour to another young farmer if none of my kids farm.
For all those concerned about the vaccine side effects, can confirm rumours are true. My mind has been muddled ever since. I even drove by
@bigbushelsag
field and thought “maybe I should buy a conservapack”
Reminder to everyone what a real snowstorm looks like in southern MB. Some guys I’m sure had a decent amount but this doesn’t rank in top 3 this winter.
Getting old. Saw tractor go by with cart and outfit behind. Waved. Carried on seeding. Same tractor goes by 25 minutes later as I’m on the phone with one of my guys. Laughing I say “poor guy, that didn’t last long”
My guy “you know that’s your tractor and brother in law right?”🤦🏼♂️
Took a weekend away from the kids. Was a good time. Make sure you take some time to refresh after the busy season. First time away as a couple without kids in 6 years.
Long day at the show. Tuckered right out. Thanks to all those companies out there that put out some pens, balloons and toques to keep these young guys going!
Be afraid, be very afraid. This Halloween there’s a seed salesman going door to door. With his killer sales associates that can hammer out a sale in no time.

When your neighbours in wheat and has a long haul and you’re in canola and not too pressed for time, it’s okay to wait at the intersection so he doesn’t have to slow down. Courtesy

Big thanks to
@kurt_shmon
from the smith kids! Cooling down with some popsicles after picking over 48 dozen cobs this AM, a big chunk which went to Kurt’s crew.
Successful trip other than not the result we wanted at the game. Free souvenirs from a salesman who was catching a flight and didn’t have room for these!
