V.sad to hear Steve Wright has died. lways fun to chat to on air & off. His shows in the 80s were often best Radio 2 thing daily: Mr. Angry, Elvis advice etc. But he was top notch from start to finish in his long career. First heard him on Read & Wright Radio 210 - fab even then.

RIP Joss Ackland. Great actor, lovely chap. His performance as Peron in Evita such an important contribution to the good fortune that show enjoyed. And he played so many other roles with distinction, humour & grace from late 1940s on. His name & talent will be long remembered.

When I was president of the Lord’s Taverners 20 years or so ago HRH was a vital no-nonsense patron, known officially as the 12th Man, whose contribution to the cause was so much more than that of figurehead. A remarkable man; our charity and country was lucky to have him. RIP

I'm sorry to hear of Helen Reddy's death. ALW and I had our first US hit cover with her version of I Don't Know How To Love Him back in 1971. Met her briefly at that time. She sustained a fine run of US hits in the 70s, unfairly underrated here. Top Aussie.

Today @ElvisPresley would be 84. Twice the age at which he died. The records still sound magnificent with the possible exception of Ol' Macdonald and one or two others. Anything he cut between 1956 & 1962 will explain everything. Long live the King.

I did not know Paul O'Grady very well but whenever I was lucky enough to meet him he was always charming, friendly and of course very funny. And a great broadcaster, top comedian in at least 2 guises. A great loss too young. RIP.

The great Chris Barber has died. Formidable influence on British post-war music & beyond, not only jazz - blues, skiffle, rock. Did so much to enable US & UK musicians to cross boundaries & bring their work to new audiences. Star player too. Honoured to have known him. RIP Chris.

@richardosman House of Games last night stated 557 people spoke Cornish as first language. Surely wrong? Actual number must be zero. Cornish now quite rightly reviving but last known Cornish speaker died in 18th century as no-one understood urgent plea for doc. Good show tho.
