So after making a Foundation Analysis document for Edexcel, I've also made a paper containing topics that have come up on at least 50% of the Non-Calculator papers.

Preparing my Calculator Revision Resources for next week's mock part 2.
These are the frequencies in the last five years of topics coming up on calculator papers.
Doing a percentage change and solving equations is integrated throughout so doesn't have its own place.

Of the 23 topics which had come in the 5 previous exam series, 21 (91%) came up this time round.
67% of topics in 4 previous exam series.
74% (3), 41% (2), 25% (1)
They have their favourites.
Its important that we know them.

It's 11:20pm on a Saturday & I just completed my to-do list for last week (56 items)
My partner & my 2 kids went out without me today.
I worked every night last week for at least an hour on lesson plans.
I still have 3 lessons on Monday to plan.
This job will break me soon.

Maths is the learning of abstract skills, the following of rules, the identification of patterns, problem solving and the use of given instructions.
Employers want people who they know when they teach them rules and instructions will be able to follow them and understand them.

Sometimes I think people forget schools are designed to train & educate.
People probably aren't routinely late for work because there are stakes - termination etc.
We need to build stakes into some elements of schooling to ensure students are trained in the right behaviours.

But I will also say this as a maths teacher, grade 4 in Maths is not a high standard, and while there are elements of the curriculum I wish weren't there (trigonometry for one), I would feel uncomfortable with my kids being taught by anyone who wasnt able to reach that standard.

It will just make the divide between heaves and have nots even larger. Schools with no budget will be able to offer jobs to teachers without "sufficient" qualifications and that will disproportionately affect the poorer children.
Raise the standards, not lower them.

In November I mentioned this wonderful student who achieved an
8 on her first mock despite being in a foundation class a year earlier.
Today she was two mistakes away from a grade 9.

Today was a massive demonstration of the positive impact I've had this year on my year 11 cohort.
All of the students in our higher groups were invited in for an A-Level taster session.
Ten students came in. Eight of which were from my Set 3 and 4. So proud.
