Confronting antisemitism, hate, standing with Israel, defending the safety of Jews worldwide, teaching the lessons of the Holocaust

Today, Kanye West made a series of rambling, antisemitic and misogynistic posts on X, where he has 32 million followers. If this does not cross a red line, then what does? How social media platforms respond will be very telling. Your move X. @elonmusk

The U.S. is right to continue shielding Israel from the biased rulings of the International Criminal Court. The @IntlCrimCourt revealed its animus when it equated Israeli leaders with a depraved terrorist organization even as Israel fought an existential war to regain its hostages and secure its sovereign territory.

We commend the Australian Parliament for cracking down on the outbreak of antisemitism sweeping their country. Hate crimes like Nazi salutes will now carry up to 12 months in jail, while terrorism offenses will face up to 6 years. We’re relieved to see lawmakers take action, but the true test of Australia’s commitment to its Jewish community and a safe society depends upon enforcing these laws. Our Australian travel advisory remains in place until these laws prove effective and the Jewish community feels safe.

Yarden Bibas has been freed, but his wife Shiri and their young children, Kfir (2) and Ariel (5), are still in Hamas captivity. Along with Yarden, we cling to hope that they will return home safely. #BringThemHomeNow #BringBibasBack
Yarden Bibas is finally home—but his wife, Shiri, and their children, Kfir and Ariel, are not with him. We stand with Yarden and the entire Bibas family. 🟧 Share this for Yarden, Shiri, Kfir, and Ariel.

Humanitarian aid must not be weaponized. SWC applauds Israel’s decision to cease its cooperation with #UNRWA. We urge the international community to immediately redirect aid to alternative channels that will deliver essential medical care, education, and assistance to the civilians of Gaza without fueling hatred, antisemitism, and violence. Today we celebrate the return home of Israeli hostages Ofer Calderon, Yarden Bibas, and American national Keith Siegel, who have endured 484 days in captivity in Gaza. They survived unimaginable horrors at the hands of Hamas, and their strength and courage inspire us all. Although we are overjoyed with their return, our hearts also remain heavy. Yarden’s wife, Shiri Bibas, and their two young sons Kfir and Ariel, two and five years old, are still somewhere in Gaza, held hostage by terrorists. We cling onto hope and pray for their safe return, along with all those still in captivity. Tonight the Museum of Tolerance will shine bright in blue to mark the return of three more of our hostages, as a symbol of solidarity with those still in captivity, and in solemn remembrance of those who will never return to us. #BringThemHomeNow #BringthemHome

The hypocrisy of New Zealand’s visa requirement for Israelis is well highlighted by Vlad Khaykin, SWC's EVP of Social Impact & Partnerships.
New Zealand has begun to force anyone from an Arab country seeking an entry visa to answer if they have been “associated with any group or organisation that has used or promoted violence or human rights abuses to further their aims?” Oh wait, no. They’re doing this to Israelis.

Simon Wiesenthal Australia Travel Advisory: Update Antisemitic vandals struck three more times across Sydney today, targeting yet another school just a few blocks from the childcare center that was set ablaze last week. The message is clear: no Jew is safe, not even toddlers and schoolchildren. Australian Jews are living in a constant state of fearful vigilance. Jewish children on their way to school have to walk by words of hate graffitied on buildings. Those words are a wake-up call. Jewish communities urgently need protection before this escalating hate turns into something even worse. Video: @ofirfromisrael

Finally, after 481 days, Israelis Gadi Moshe Mozes, Arbel Yehoud, Agam Berger, and Thai nationals Sathian Suwannakham, Pongsak Thanna, Watchara Sriaoun, Surasak Lamnao, and Bannawat Saethao have been released from Hamas captivity. Their survival of this unimaginable ordeal, their strength and their resilience inspire us all. Tonight as we celebrate their return and illuminate the Museum of Tolerance in blue, marking the change from darkness to light and from despair to hope, we also hold in our hearts the hostages who remain in Gaza and those who did not live to see this day. #BringThemHome #BringThemHomeNow

There may be a ceasefire in Gaza, but in #Australia the war against Jews rages on. Sydney police thwarted yet another antisemitic attack after discovering a trailer packed with explosives and a note reading "F*** the Jews"—a terrifying escalation of violence against Australian Jews. Antisemitic incidents in Australia have skyrocketed since the Israel-Gaza war began in late 2023: buildings burned, synagogues and homes defaced with swastikas, and graffiti calling for violence against Jews with messages like "Kill Israel." The Simon Wiesenthal Center will maintain its travel advisory for Jews thinking about traveling to Australia until authorities there take concrete action to identify and prosecute the perpetrators of these rising hate crimes and acts of terrorism targeting Jewish citizens.

On the eve of International Holocaust Remembrance Day, #Ireland’s President Michael Higgins hijacked a commemoration of the #Holocaust to comment on Israel’s war against Hamas. When Jewish historian Lior Tibet (among others) turned her back to protest the untimely remarks, she was physically dragged from the hall. We applaud Tibet’s courageous public protest. False equivalence is a common tool of disinformation...and antisemites. Actually, the most apt analogy between the Holocaust and recent events is the Hamas terrorist attack that ignited the current war—the most savage mass murder of Jews since the Holocaust.

Today is International Holocaust Remembrance Day, marking the 80th anniversary of the liberation of #Auschwitz, the largest Nazi death camp. The #liberation of the camps was a profound moment, ending years of unimaginable suffering. For survivors, it meant freedom, but also the reality of loss, displacement, and the struggle to rebuild a new life. Auschwitz was just one of many horrors of the #Holocaust, during which the Nazis murdered six million Jews simply for being Jewish—an attempt to systematically erase an entire people. The Holocaust stands as a stark reminder that silence in the face of evil leads to the perpetuation of humanity’s greatest tragedies. We must never forget, we must honor the victims, and we must fight hate in all forms to ensure that history never repeats itself. 📷 Photo 1: Young and old survivors in Dachau cheer approaching U.S. troops, April 29, 1945. Last night, we were thrilled to once again light the @musoftolerance Los Angeles in blue. Each time hostages are freed from Hamas captivity, the museum is illuminated to honor their return and recognize the long-awaited moment. The blue lights are a tribute to those who have been reunited with their families, a reminder of those still held in captivity, and a solemn remembrance of those who did not make it home. We eagerly await the moment when the Museum of Tolerance will glow blue again as more #hostages are released. #BringThemHomeNow #BringThemHomeNow

The Simon Wiesenthal Center is filled with joy that Liri Albag, Karina Ariev, Naama Levy, and Daniella Gilboa returned home today after 477 days in Hamas captivity. These four young women, surveillance soldiers in the @IDF, were taken #hostage from the Nahal Oz army base on October 7, 2023. While we celebrate their return, we await those hostages still held in Gaza and mourn those who did not survive to see this day. Today, one of Judaism's most sacred commandments—the redemption of captives—has been fulfilled. "Pidyon shvuyim" is an ancient and fundamental religious obligation of the Jewish people to free Jewish captives. We're grateful to be able to celebrate this mitzvah today. This release gives us hope that we will see the return of all hostages to the waiting arms of their families or for burial in the Land of Israel. Tonight, the @MuseumofTolerance will be bathed in blue light at sunset as a wordless tribute to the hostages released, those left behind, and those forever lost. We will illuminate the museum every time additional hostages are released. #BringThemHome #BringThemHomeNow
