Want some GREAT news?
Sunrise has now reached its latest time across the UK. From the next few days it'll start getting lighter in the mornings 🎉
(evenings have been getting lighter for a while now and of course overall daylength is increasing)
Missed all the
#aurora
action last night?
Another chance to see it tonight anywhere in the UK but it may not be as bright.
Last night we had an extreme 'G5' storm, tonight indications are more like a strong 'G3'. But don't let that put you off having a look 🤩🌌
Results day of a different kind here. My wife had a big thyroid tumour taken out recently. After months of worry and uncertainty, results today cleared her of the big C 🙌
So proud how she’s handled it and kept so strong for everyone, she’s amazing xx
#ThankyouNHS
You're in for a treat if you look up at the night sky.
Jupiter & Saturn have been getting closer and will 'kiss' on Mon 21st. Called the 'Great Conjunction' or the 'Christmas Star', it hasn't happened for 800 years!

Flying ants!!!
Swarms of them flying into the sky in S Eng are being picked up as rain on the radar image this morning...!

Sunrise is currently the latest it'll be in the morning. From now, it'll start getting lighter earlier 🌅
And with sunset getting later since mid-Dec, we've now got 10 mins more daylight than we had on the solstice 🥳
WOW! 🤩🌌
This was a lovely surprise in our Weather Watcher inbox this morning...really impressive

in Scotland and N Yorkshire last night 😻
If you’re doing some

Will look at them all and feature as many as I can on

in the morning 🤩
Storm surge from
#HurricaneLaura
will be up to 20ft in places. Inundation could be as far as 30 miles inland. This video from
@weatherchannel
shows how terrifying that is...

We're rapidly gaining daylight at the moment of around 4 mins per day. AND, tomorrow is the 'equilux'* where day and night are roughly equal. 👏🥳
*not to be confused with the equinox on Sat 20th.
Big thanks to our absolutely brilliant
#NHS
for looking after me today.
1 x ambulance ride 🚑
2 x ECGs 📉
1 x X-Ray 💀
1 x Ultrasound 🔦
Heaps of care and attention 💕
Couldn’t be more appreciative. Got a slightly dodgy ticker 💔 so taking it easy for next few days.
I'm easily pleased when it comes to a weather photograph but think you'll agree that this is an absolutely AMAZING picture from the thunderstorms at the weekend...
🌈 + ⚡️ = 😍
While it'll feel warm in sunshine this week, the real key for warmer weather is when the jet stream heads northward.
And look what happens at the end of this week...
Big impacts expected on the Hawaiian Islands over the next few days as
#HurricaneLane
bears down. It was upgraded to a dangerous Cat 5 hurricane this morning with wind speeds of 160mph. Looking very ominous from space...🛰
Happy Equilux day! 🌅
Roughly 12hrs of daylight today which means we've turned a corner and from tomorrow there'll be more light than dark! Plenty to celebrate about that 🥳
It was too cloudy for most of us in the UK to see the
#GreatConjunction
🪐 but a couple of our weather watchers from Aberdeenshire saw something arguably as impressive in the night sky...

All time records broken yesterday, those likely to be beaten again today. Will the UK join them?

I’d never considered myself as a ‘dog person’ but oh my, I am totally converted! 🐾
Honey 🍯 has been with us for nearly 2 weeks now and I absolutely love her. She’s brought so much joy to the whole family 😍😍
First time this year I heard birdsong at 4.45am! 🐦 Either a massive coincidence that it’s getting lighter now at the right time or the they know it’s the

Today is the day you've all been waiting for... 🎊🎉
The mornings are now getting lighter! 🌅😃
(there is a lag between when the evenings start get lighter to the shortest day to now when the mornings get lighter).
📣 Amazing phenomenon alert! You may have seen many rainbows in your life but have you ever seen a moonbow?
As the
#SuperWormMoon
was so bright last night, a
@BBCWthrWatchers
captured this rare colourful moonbow. Incredible... 😍🌕🌈
It's the

While it means today is the shortest day with only 5hr50 of daylight in N Scot and 8hrs in S Eng 😟, the

great news is that it'll start getting lighter from tomorrow! 🎊🎉
Breaking news: Pot of gold🏆 found in an outbuilding in Tavistock, Devon.
Love the pronounced darker sky to the outer side of the rainbow🌈, called Alexander's dark band. It's an optical phenomena named by Alexander of Aphrodisias in 200AD
Fancy seeing something really cool?
(some saw it last night)
⬇️This is the
#Starlink
satellite train from the
@SpaceX
program and will be visible tonight 🛰. 👀 Look SW to E at around 10pm for 6mins.
Plenty of clear skies for it too! 🌌
Thank you to those who asked if I was alright after my radio 4 weather earlier.
Not going to lie, it was horrendous…I just couldn’t catch a breath.
Time was really tight after I finished a TV hit so I decided to run upstairs to the radio studio…big mistake 😮💨🤦
If you missed it yesterday morning, you've still got a chance to see Venus in the morning sky before sunrise. Just look for the brightest dot in the sky near the moon 🌙...

Despite finding it quite hard to listen at times today without welling up a bit,
@bbc5live
has been brilliant today. The tributes to
@Rachael_Hodges
have been lovely, funny, moving and just fantastic! Feel incredibly proud and lucky to be part of the 5 live family. 🤗
There’s a been a lot of activity on the Sun which means charged particles are hurtling towards to Earth 🌍
Aurora could be visible across the WHOLE of the U.K. tonight and Sat night. Only thing against us is the shorter amount of dark skies.
As
#StormEunice
clears, should give a massive 👏 to meteorological science. Forecasts consistently highlighted the storm from Mon with early
@metoffice
warnings issued.
Most people heeded warnings & advice from authorities resulting in fewer major impacts/injury and fatalities.
Wow, wow, wow. 🤩 With over 1,000

strikes⚡️ in an hour around Eastbourne last night and around 10,000 through the whole night in SE England, the skies were insane...! Check these out 👇

Hope warnings & evacuations were heeded and everyone stays safe 🙏
While we're still on the look out for

here in the UK, New York City had it's snowiest November day in 80 years yesterday. ☃ 6" fell in Central Park.
While the

happens tonight when Jupiter & Saturn appear together in the night sky, our weather watchers caught some great detail yesterday evening...👀
Forecast tonight isn't looking good but Northern Ireland and W Scotland best chance.
BINGO!

Should be asleep but was way too excited so I’m standing half naked in my garden where even without a camera I can see the purples…
Absolutely incredible 🤩

You don't see these often...amazing shelf cloud yesterday evening invading the south coast ahead of the thunderstorms last night. ⬇️⚡️😍
How was it in the SE last night? Sleep OK? 💦😴

Widely windy today and tomorrow (50-60mph) but AMBER warning for Northern Ireland 🔸⚠️…

If the aurora wasn't enough last night, STEVE made an appearance!
STEVE - Strong Thermal Emission Velocity Enhancement - is the thin purplish ribbon glowing near to the aurora. It's a relatively new phenomena which is still being investigated.
🌌
OK, this is the most amazing shot I've ever seen! And it has baffled us
@bbcweather
.
▪️Double rainbow with reflection on the water ✅ - not rare.
▪️Secondary bow right inside the main rainbow - rare and can't explain?
Could be a 'twinned' or 'supernumerary' bow. 🤔
Anyone else notice the totally amazing Arcus (shelf) cloud above the Leipzig stadium? Big storms in the area ⚡️🛸
Just me then? 🤓🤣

Edinburgh has had its wettest May - and spring - on record, obliterating previous records.
Three and a half times the average rain falling here throughout May...pretty incredible stats!

Hope the storm hasn’t impacted you badly and sorry I’ve not replied to all your messages - it’s been a manic day!
Have you ever seen a rainbow at night? 🌌🌈
Check this out... a really nice vibrant example of a 'moonbow'.
Formed in the same way as a normal rainbow but the light comes from the bright moon and not the sun.
Reports of some epic

Hitting the UK in early hours of Thursday with the most damaging and severe winds (100mph) in the English Channel...
Our BBC weather watchers do a great job of cheering me up with their excellent weather photos. This morning is no exception with this gorgeous shot of the Brecon Beacons from last night....😍🗻
We were warned it would come, I'm not sure many thought it would be quite now...📈🌡️🤯
Very likely that 19 Jul '22 will go down in the history books as the date when temperatures exceed 4⃣0⃣°C in the UK for the first time.
Decided earlier this week to cancel going to the pub with mates to watch the game. 🍻🍺
With Noah nearly 10, this will surely be his first memorable footy tournament. Let’s hope it’s a really big one to remember 🏆🤞
