I work in tech but posts here are mostly just random observations or thoughts that run through my brain. All opinions expressed are my own.

@MichaelCade1 I've tried to listen to a few, but they just sound too artificial, like one brain writing a script and then reading it with two voices. It's the aural version of the uncanny valley for me.

@MichaelCade1 Yeah, it's all over the place and totally drives me crazy. Especially when it's just obviously incorrect/made up, but people present it like it is some kind of fact just because ChatGPT said it.

@MichaelCade1 I used a virtualize TrueNAS with PCIe passthrough SCSI controller as my primary datastores for years. As I've simplified my lab, I don't need it for this use case anomore, but still use it for some shared storage for SQL clusters and for other shares. It's great!

@WorkingHardInIT Those prices are amazing vs what I pay for 1Gbps, kind of hurts a bit to think about it. We have a new competitor entering the local market that claims they have "industry disrupting" prices, they'd still be ~4-5x this amount!

@MichaelCade1 My wife and I definitely think our next daily driver will be an EV (it is currently a hybrid). Will be harder to consider it for the 2nd car, which we use primarily for longer road trips.

@MichaelCade1 I definitely see it. I can of thought it was the algorithm basically saying "I don't have any new material you would find interesting, but maybe you're bored and would be willing to watch a rerun."

@anthonyspiteri I've never heard of this book, but reading the synopsis, it might be my bible.

@anthonyspiteri I first installed it in 92 and never really looked back. Having a Unix-like OS on my own systems that was free. and that I could contribute to, seemed like a dream and living through those heady days was some of the most fun I've had with tech.

@MichaelCade1 Completely based on the program. I'm unimpressed with my local university's program, but there are great schools out there that would be well worth it. Not that different vs the late 80's as my school's program at the time was stuck in the past.

@twavas Sure, I can Google and tweak, and get everything perfect for my setup, but the setup I'm working on isn't for me. Oh well, I guess I can be happy that at least it's possible. This 7+ year old laptop is completely usable after the tweaks and runs great!
