In light of Delilah will IRFU review its PA music? Boys are Back in Town (condones street fighting, knife crime), Dearg Doom (glorifies beheading), Fields of Athenry (corn larceny) Beautiful Day (celebrates climate change)?
It’s all over for me in Times Ireland tonight. Last man standing in the office so won’t get the traditional knockdown. If you’re out there, give your table or desk a good bang for five seconds and I’ll hear you. And do yourself and the world a favour - keep buying newspapers
Does anyone remember the RTE results show for the 1983 referendum? Michael D was getting increasingly agitated and at 6pm John Bowman turned to camera and said "now we break to go to the Angelus". A lone voice could be distinctly heard: "well that's very fecking appropriate..."

Yesterday was a sad day with The Times telling us it would stop printing an Irish edition. The team were great to work with and will all continue to fly, despite the poor prognosis for the industry. I also got a chance to write lots of cricket: this is today’s column.

Can't help thinking today of two great
@cricketireland
fans who would have loved to be in the MCG. The iconic shot from the win in Jamaica 2007 was of Arthur Deeny and Derek O'Neill dancing a jig. We lost Arthur in 2018 and Derek, pictured in Bangalore 2011, last Saturday. RIP
When I was about 8 we had our own football team, O’Connell Spitfires, and used to play friendlies against a team from Finglas. I used to write match reports and my dad copied them for all. Sorting out his stuff I just found one and it brings it all back gloriously. Great times
I'm done already, but thoughts with former colleagues on

on their last day. Really enjoyed working with you all and I've no doubt your talents will find a home. And while
@GarryDoyle1
has been displaying his greatest hits over on his timeline, here's two of mine
It is now exactly 1,000 days since Ireland cricketers last played a Test match; there are no more on the horizon.
It is nearly five years since ICC granted Test status to Ireland, who have played three Test matches since.

In researching Cricket history I’ve looked at every single Irish national newspaper since the 1850s, so I can assure you that there has never before been four broadsheet pages devoted to the sport. Followers of Cricket simply can’t miss today’s

@Irelandcricket
making a few points. "Yes Marian, they're still on a high after beating England two days ago," "Well Marian, it's hard to say how this one will go but Ireland are well placed" and the like. Three weeks later I got home to discover Charlie Bird had been presenting that day. (2/2)
Lot of nasty comments about
@CampherCurtis
because he was not born in Ireland. Of the 59 men capped in ODIs for

before this, 8 were born in SA, 6 England, 5 Australia, 3 NZ and 1 India. Give the lad a chance
Trump: "You gotta take care of the floors. You know the floors of the forest, very important... I was with the President of Finland... he called it a forest nation and they spent a lot of time on raking and cleaning and doing things and they don't have any problem."
A producer for the Marian Finucane radio show asked me to go on one Sunday in 2011 when

Great turn out of Irish media here for the Test. On occasions like this I always think of those we worked alongside who would have loved to see this day; Sean Pender, Karl Johnston, Stanley Bergin, Davy Holmes. We’re thinking of you, men
Welcome to cricket in 2018...where the only footage of the game that may have knocked Afghanistan out of the world cup comes from the wife of the Zimbabwe captain in the crowd.....
Just witnessed the emergence of a star. Amy Hunter is 16 today, and celebrated by scoring the first ODI century for Ireland since July 2000 and only the 4th in all.
She’s also the youngest to score an ODI ton for ANY country, beating Mithali Raj 16y 205d.

Dad and Uncle David loved their rugby, never missed a home game in 60 years. They reckoned a win in NZ would be better than a World Cup. They both left us in the last 18 months but I’m sure they’re smiling down at us today.
Seventh Olympic gold for Ireland 🇮🇪 since 1924 - only downside is it puts Cork top of the county medal table with 3, followed by Wicklow 2, Dublin 1 and Tipperary 1.
Nanci Griffith was a seriously good singer and songwriter. It used irritate me a lot that she was only known for From A Distance, but songs like Love At the Five and Dime and her version of Speed of the Sound of Loneliness are masterpieces

@Eoin16
back in the club today for a catch up. As per usual, Eoin was fantastic in giving his time to the kids. No better person to learn from than a World Cup winning captain !
I saw
@FAIreland
play Italy there in my first football international back in 1971. Lovely to see Lansdowne Road lit up in solidarity with our Italian friends tonight

This is the 293rd international match in all formats played by
@IrishWomensCric
and Amy Hunter’s 121* is the highest individual score in all that time. And 312-3 is Ireland’s highest ODI score too, She won’t forget her 16th birthday!
Sad day as one of the greats bows out. He deserved better but we’ll always have that magic night when he took England apart for six after six. Best of luck in all you do Kev.
What a hypocrite Stokes is with his "I would have called him back" twaddle. England captains are just as willing to play dumb. Did Collingwood call back Elliott? Did Morgan called Balbirnie when Foakes cheated him out at Malahide?
There are four concurrent ODIs happening right now deciding places for the next Cricket World Cup
Not one of them is being broadcast anywhere, including one between two full members
It's 2018

“An area the size of Connecticut” they tell us on Morning Ireland... that’s a great help. Try “an area the size of Northern Ireland” say, or “slightly smaller than Connacht”
I really enjoy getting letters from readers but this, from Cathal in Co Clare, is the best ever. He’s drawn a whole comic about his visit to Dublin to meet, eh, his favourite writer and how he evades security to meet me in my office in the Aviva. Thanks Cathal I’ll be in touch!

The cricket season should be starting this weekend, and

marking 200 years of playing in College Park. But that’s not likely to happen now. In today’s
