@poetryalpastor The game as a text or an experience or what? Because this feels like it flies straight into my blind spot about whether the game actually means anything at the table outside the play experience.

@poetryalpastor (even though, as you point out, we can be clear about "who is winning" mathematically and probabilistically in chess. It's not enough)

@poetryalpastor Can you give me a little bit more on that? I'm just heading to bed but I'm super into the difference here.

@poetryalpastor Also worth saying that there is a worthwhile discussion to be had around the omnipotent observer's perspective. It's just rarely what I care about because I'm so big on player experience.

@poetryalpastor And I might just be homesick and so keep talking about test cricket, but consider: that game suffers rain delays and such so often, and their common approach of mathematically modeling a new goal run rate is...unsatisfying.

@poetryalpastor You're right that there's a spectrum though. Is it ticket to Ride where when you finish a goal you place it face down and draw another? That kind of behaviour can create a "statistical calculation" that allows players to take guesses. But there's also games where you can't.

@poetryalpastor The difference between KDA and basketball points is that KDA doesnt define winning. Basketballs points do. Even where "more gold" is the points, different breakpoints etc mean that it's not 1:1 like "56-72 Bulls" is. In this case, KDA is closer to rebounds: suggesting position
