#OnThisDay in 1918, British merchant vessel the SS Ben Rein was tragically sunk during WW1. 35 miles NW of Liverpool it was captured by a German U-boat and sunk by gunfire while en route from Liverpool to Belfast. Find out more here:

The SS Eurylochus, a 5,723-ton British cargo ship, was sunk by a German auxiliary cruiser on January 22, 1940. The Shipwrecked Mariners’ Society provided financial aid to seven of the crew members who were captured in the war. Find out more:
