one reason i appreciate Black horror so much is that it demonstrates Black people's level of threat assessment, a level that is nearly always absent in other horror. the horrific thing happens and Black characters immediately try to get out (!), but the story keeps going.

came across someone laughing at the idea that "wearing glasses is a disability" and, of course, this person was not visually impaired, which means they do not need glasses to see/function in their everyday life, and don't have to pay money to be able to use their eyes.

what's clear to me when writing about friendship is that a lot of people are very lonely. a lot of people are craving genuine friendship but are unable to have it, and it's not their fault. it's a culture that devalues community, promotes individualism, and shuns vulnerability.

Black horror does not (arguably, cannot) rely on many familiar horror tropes because those tropes require the characters to make decisions that most Black people simply would not make when faced with imminent danger. we don't much care about investigating the danger.

yes! external forces drive Black horror! Black characters do not seek out the danger. they are imposed on by the danger, and they would rather simply escape the danger (or defeat it, if they have to) than ask questions about why it exists.

i have seen this a million times already and all i can think about it how seldom i've seen white women control their anger. they just redirect their anger at white men towards the rest of us. the term "Karen" wouldn't exist without white women's uncontrolled anger.

i know how appropriation works. i know this isn't an anomaly. but this one makes me cringe the most.

after delivering a final presentation in a college course, a classmate i had never spoken to came up to me, unprovoked, and told me, "i'm surprised, i thought you wouldn't have anything smart to say" because i was always quiet in class, and was confused as to why i was offended.

People who are beyond uncomfortable around quiet people are genuinely amusing to me. I saw a girl equate it to a lack of development and it's like?? Why are you so bothered by silence? Why must you create some narrative to explain why someone is comfortable not speaking?

every time y'all argue about afab/amab/agab, i think about how intersex people keep saying that the language was never intended to be used that way because it was created by intersex communities to talk about their specific experiences and people just continue to ignore them
