There is a wide gap between a failed fighter jet and any sort of drone. There is also a wide gap between a man who fights for his life, his homeland, or his buddy in the foxhole and a machine doing a pre-programmed routine at the push of a button. War is hell,which is precisely why it is predicated on death of human beings, being its own best deterrent.
The F-35 design was broken at the requirements level, because it was required to be too many things to too many people. This made it an expensive & complex jack of all trades, master of none. Success was never in the set of possible outcomes. And manned fighter jets are obsolete in the age of drones anyway. Will just get pilots killed.
