SSG Alan Wayne Shaw was, is, and will always be my heart. To this day, the softball glove he first tapped atop my head after a game at Little Rock's Interstate ball park remains on display in our home. That was the first time we had the pleasure of meeting. In a way that only he could, Alan said, "I choose you..." That's what made him so special in our lives. He chose me and all that came with that. There were ups and downs, like any marriage, but what we had through it all was passion, friendship, and grace. On our best and worst days, we always knew that if we remained friends first, we could make it through anything. Anything but Iraq... That February day 18 years ago, I lost my best friend, lover, and the greatest dad my children could have ever been blessed with. Our lives, as we knew them, were forever changed by a knock at the door. Nothing would ever be the same, but I've learned that no matter how much changes around you, love, above all else, remains. Memories will one day fade, just as our bodies will eventually fail us, but love is all there is in life that transends​ death. We are the lucky ones to experience that with a man like him. I am forever grateful that we were chosen to be loved by Alan and will always be proud to be my hero's Gold Star Wife... 🇺🇸 Lest we forget... 🇺🇲
