💔 just heartbroken at the devastating news of the death of my friend & colleague Damien O'Reilly. Literally everyone knew him because he had done so much for the area. He was an immense character & a tireless worker for his community. My thoughts are with his heartbroken family.

is one of the top sports programmes by a country mile but like anything it’s the people that make it and tonight’s episode with Johnny Pilkington was one of the best....a character yes but the programme showed the depth to one of the greats of the game.
HUGE news for Navan this morning as the Cabinet has just approved the long awaited Navan rail project.
This is transformative for Navan and way overdue.
Cocaine abuse in GAA Clubs:
Cocaine abuse by our young people in our sports clubs is a topic that will be discussed by the GAA at Congress next week where proposals to ban players from games who fail to take a test will be put forward.

As a former journalist & NUJ member I am delighted to have been appointed as Spokesperson for Media, Arts, Sport & Tourism in the Seanad by An Taoiseach. Looking forward to the challenge ahead.
33,000 Meath people travel to work in Dublin daily. I recently pressed the NTA on their study saying the Navan line is not viable. This is outdated & uses 8-9am as the peak travel hour. People are on the road before 6am. I’ve invited the NTA to Navan to see & discuss this reality
Class speech from new
@officialgaa
president Jarlath Burns.....amateur players who serve up the highest sporting entertainment in Ireland. A great new president for our Association.
Very sad to hear of the death of former Galway TD Noel Treacy this morning.
Noel gave me great support over the years. The pic below is during my by-election in 2005.
He was also a leading figure in the GAA & I loved meeting him in Croke Park...A

man to his core.
The legend on
#tommytiernanshow
.....and to cap it off pulls off an impersonation of Colm O'Rourke. But most importantly spoke so passionately about our sense of place and what it means to be a Meath man.
To whatever asshole did this to the Lia Fail stone at Tara....I hope you at least fell in a mountain of sheep shit before you reached the gate.

📢 Big Shout Out To Rory O'Connor For His Work On Positive Mental Health👏
This afternoon in the Seanad we debated mental health. I ended my contribution with words from fellow Meath man, Rory O'Connor - better known as
@RorysStories
- for all the work he has done in this area
Privileged to have SDLP leader Colum Eastwood in Trim with me tonight as we enter the final furlong of the campaign. A massive endorsement from a progressive young leader.

Yet another 'newsagents' who have stopped selling newspapers....Bus Stop on Grafton St.....that's 4 in the immediate vicinity of Leinster House that have stopped selling papers in the last year. I know the world operates online but it will be a sad day if physical papers die out.

Great craic & I bagged 2 goals against the Cilles. It went downhill from there 🤣 Well done to
@sherro9
for organising &
@declanoreilly1
for whipping the Navan lads into shape.
Made it home from the Senate just in time to catch the last 15 minutes of the U9 mini league finals in O'Mahony's. Noah's 3rd year with the Hoops. Well done to all the Mentors who are coaching the lads.
At the end of the campaign I just want to say a big thank you to everyone who has supported us & worked so hard on this journey. A special thank you to the people of Meath West for their warm welcome. I am asking for your No.1 vote as we aim to really make this

Great news this morning that
@MeathGAA
has got the green light to redevelop Páirc Tailteann into a 21,000 seater stadium. This will make the old ground one of the finest in the country. I've sought financial backing from the new Sports Infrastructure Fund to help make this happen
🗳 23 years ago today I was elected for the first time...Navan Town Council elections 12/6/1999.
🗳 And no this isn't my confirmation picture....it was actually my poster pic for that election 🙈.

🗳 Big day for Caroline O'Reilly who was co-opted to
@meathcoco
this afternoon to fill the seat of her late cousin Cllr Damien O'Reilly. A day full of emotion but Caroline will serve the people of Dunboyne with distinction. Was delighted to attend to see Caroline take her seat.
Thanks to

& the
@LMFMMichael
show as I spoke of my decision to step away from public life after 25 years. Thanks to everyone who has sent messages over the past 2 days. It has been a privilege to serve as a Councillor, TD, Senator & Mayor of Navan over that period.
🏐 Gaelic in the Joy 🏐
A unique experience today as 13 politicians headed into Mountjoy for a match against the inmates.
Managing the inmates team was Dublin legend Philly McMahon & Meath legend
@RorysStories
. The result wasn't important but for the record we didn't win 🙈
Huge congratulations & best wishes to this absolute legend (and my favourite Meath footballer of all time) on his appointment this evening as
@MeathGAA
senior football coach 💚💛
Thanks so much to my friend from my sports journo days Damien Eagers for this fab photo of me & CJ arriving at Arbour Hill yesterday.....CJ was certainly delighted to meet the boss!! Thanks

🇪🇸 110km done & dusted for this little girl....super proud of her this evening & she has also raised over €1,500 for Navan Meals & Wheels and the Alemachen programme in Ethiopia 🇪🇹
I need a cold beer now after walking from the hotel to the Cathedral to get the picture 📸 🍺 🙈
The limit of 200 people at sporting fixtures currently in place has been hard for those who want to enjoy the resumption of our games. This morning in the Seanad I called on the Minister for Sport to set the figure of 400 in the Republic as exists in the North.
What a night in Pairc Tailteann as Meath fans welcome home their heroes. Fair play to Colm O'Rourke & all the team who spent 2 hours on the pitch signing autographs. Fair play to
@MeathGAA
for organising such a fab family night 🏆💚💛
Delighted to see Meath legend Colm O'Rourke inducted into the GAA Hall of Fame. He was alongside my Uncle Joe in both the 87 & 88 All-Ireland finals & was a hero of mine as a kid. The way he guides young people as principal of St Pat's, Navan makes him a hero of mine to this day
👨🎓 Ard Rí CNS & St Ultan's Special School👨🎓
Huge news this morning as Minister for Education
@NormaFoleyTD1
has informed me of a new shared educational campus for both Ard Rí CNS & St Ultan's special school. Great news for both schools and all the parents and students

BIG NEWS NAVAN RAIL 🚄
Today
@IrishRail
advertised for consultants to assist in all stages of the Navan rail line project.
The consultants will progress detailed design &
construction.
This is a “huge step forward” and “proves that the will to deliver Navan Rail is now here.”
Well after Four days of counting that's a wrap....we end the count tonight with Padraig Fitzsimons being elected in Navan. An exhausting & amazing celebration of our democracy. Well done to all elected & huge kudos to all who stood before the people.
Baby of the family making his first holy communion ⛪️
I'm trying to explain to Bobby what a big deal it is that I've not gone to Waterford & I'm missing only my 3rd

championship match in 40 years....but I'm getting no sympathy in the house!
@LMFMRADIO
commentary it is🎙
Very proud of my little girl CJ (who also turned 13 yesterday) for raising €1,900 on her 119km walk on the Camino last month.
This morning she presented €950 to Navan Meals on Wheels and she will later present another €950 to the Alecmachan Children's Home in Ethiopia.
🚂NAVAN RAIL UPDATE🚂
Today I met with the CEO of
@IrishRail
Jim Meade so that I can give people Facts.
🚂 There is now a team in place working on planning for Navan Rail.
🚂18 MONTHS - It is anticipated that they will be ready to go for planning for Navan Rail in 18 months.
Very proud of the job
@MichealMartinTD
has done leading our country. Strong, stable and decisive leadership. A credit to us at home & on the international stage.
Down Syndrome Ireland acting as welcoming ambassadors to Croke Park today for the big games....and it's our very own Fintan Bray holding court at the entrance to the Hogan!! He's everywhere these days 😀
Supporting the call of the FAI to use the money from a 1% increase in the betting tax for sports facilities throughout Ireland. The Bookies industry profits to the tune of billions in this country.....it should give more back to real communities.
@IrelandFootball
Meeting an old friend in the Mansion House this lunchtime with Minister McEntee....won't be long till he's home in Meath. Talk about raising the excitement levels for Sunday!
Delighted to meet
@Keir_Starmer
today with my colleagues at Westminster. Our day kicked off on matters pertaining to Northern Ireland where
@ClaireHanna
was raising the funding of Casement Park with the new NI Secretary. Thank you to
@columeastwood
& Claire for the welcome today.
🗞Local papers are the lifeblood of information for communities across Ireland. Today in the Seanad I raised the issue of
@NUJofficial
journalists being laid off from a number of papers in Iconic Newspapers. Local radio stations have been supported & the same needs to happen here
People say never meet your heroes....I'm blessed to know my hero in life.....and thrilled to be sitting beside him tonight at the Meath Chronicle Sportstar Awards.
67 years after the opening of the current stand we are about to get a new one in Pairc Tailteann following the announcement today of €6.2m for the ground.
🏐 My managerial debut for Noah's
@NavanOMahonys
mini league final tonight is not going to get me the call up to Colm O'Rourke's backroom team but it was a fab experience.
Top marks to

Dads & lads....a good performance tonight and I may get the call up for Meath on Sunday!
He was the voice of a nation. You say his name and you instantly hear his voice in your head. He illuminated our games and brought joy to so many. Rest in peace Micheál Ó Muircheartaigh.
These have been a tough few weeks but amazing how a walk on a crisp day and greeting a friendly face along the way can give your mood a positive boost.....also amazing where you’ll bump into the chairman of the

hurling board!!

The death of any Gael is sad but the passing of one who lifted Sam is extra poignant. My condolences to Peter Darby's family as all

@Laochra_Gael
is without doubt the best sports TV programme in Ireland.....not fluff....Real deep sports journalism that details the highs and lays bare the lows. Tonight's episode with Kilkenny's Richie Power and the lows he faced because of gambling was, raw, real & superb.
🇮🇹 Forza Italia 🇮🇹
My great friends the Lupo family are naturally very excited tonight.
The Lupo's come from Navan's twin town of Brocco Stella and so my heart is with them all tonight.
Best of luck to all our Italian friends and here is to a great game.
#Euro2020Final
If it wasn't so serious it would be funny that RTE broadcast a show from Navan tonight on the challenges faced in our area and not one of the 3 TDs from Navan was on the show.....
Sunday Miscellany never fails to disappoint but any show that can bring together the amazing rendition of Jerusalem by Josef Locke & the Muppet Show theme tune in one episode deserves a medal - what a way to start a beautiful Easter Sunday morning
@RTESunMisc
Since coming home from Cavan I've seen a lot written about Meath on social media (more than the amount of Meath fans present) For tonight can we just say thank you to the Meath lads & management for all the effort they've given for the jersey since the very first week of January.
⚽️ Meeting today with
@FAIreland
to discuss funding for grassroots football & investment in the academies. Oh and we have a new manager!
The FAI academy plan can really develop young players here in Ireland.
The FAI also set out their apology they made to our female soccer stars.

Now for the Dubs in the final 🏆
Nearly 33,000 cheering fans packed the Aviva for tonight's Ireland v England women's Euro qualifier. Unfortunately it ended in defeat but a fantastic night for the game. To cap off the night I got to meet the legend that is Charlie O'Leary. Great to see him going strong at 100 💪

In the last hour I've got called for my 2nd vaccine, got a ticket for the Meath game on Sunday & met Kerry legend Paul Galvin on the street.....how the afternoon is going to match this I don't know!!
If I get this emosh about Bobby winning the u7 player of the week he better not let me go to the All Stars in 20 years time 😂🙈🏐🏆 Well done to Gary Nelson & all the coaches who do an amazing job every Saturday morning.
Tara Mines is one of the most important resources in our county. Today along with
@ThomasByrneTD
I experienced the amazing work the miners do. We travelled to the deepest spot in Ireland -900 metres underground. We came face to face with the tough conditions workers face daily.
